James Gunn is reportedly already working on every project he could possibly want to be involved with, at least according to the director himself, who recently felt obligated to clear some misinterpretations about his future with both Marvel and DC properties.

Gunn’s most recent projects wereThe Suicide SquadandPeacemaker, with the latter marking his debut as a showrunner. Next year, his third Marvel Studios film is scheduled for release whenGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3hits theaters in May. What is supposed to be the closing chapter to hisGuardianstenure is currently filming, and judging from theRick and Mortygifts he sometimes gets, morale on set is pretty high.

Nevertheless, Gunn took the time to address a recent Comic Book Resources article on Twitter that speculated on his future, to make sure his public statements, or rather tweets, are not taken out of context. In a previous reply to a fan, Gunn had said, “There are presently no characters at either Marvel or DC that I want to be working with right now that I am not.” This is a quote that was believed to mean he would be done with the MCU after theGuardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, theI Am Grootseries, and the third entry in his mainGuardians of the Galaxytrilogy, but that is not the case.

Per the director’s own clarification, he meant to say that he’s currently already working on several projects, some of which have not been made public and might be MCU-related properties. Even then, he referred to this as being a matter of the present and not somewhere down the line. On a different response, he promptly told a fan that just because he lovesSuperman 2it doesn’t mean he’d want to make a Superman movie, just like he doesn’t want to cook the beef stroganoff he likes eating.

Besides all threeGuardiansproductions, Gunn will also be busy runningPeacemakerseason 2, as well as co-writing the plannedCoyote vs. Acmemovie, but it’s a complete mystery what else could be on his agenda. Despite being among the few directors to helm both Marvel and DC blockbusters, Gunn has mentioned there are very few differences between the two, besides the MCU’s greater need for interconnectivity.

While some fans have speculatedGunn is more at home in DC’s R-rated branch, it’s clear he loves working on both. So maybe just let the man enjoy hisRick and Mortytoys while his Guardians are busy hanging out inThor: Love and Thunder’s trailer.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3is scheduled to be released in theaters on Jul 06, 2025.
