With Hollywood still cranking around at high efficiency even during a full-blown pandemic, it can be easy to forget some of the big picture projects that are still in the pipeline. One such project is the upcoming latest sequel in theJohn Wickseries. While not even the title is known as of yet, a slow drip of new info may be all fans have to cling to at the moment.
Some may remember thatThe Shawshank RedemptionstarClancy Brown joined the cast ofJohn Wick 4late last summer. But those who do recall also likely know that his role is still largely under wraps. Luckily, Brown himself has seen fit to throw fans a bone with a little tidbit of detail regarding who he’ll be playing in the Keanu Reeves-led action franchise. Even if he still has to keep things mostly secret, it looks like he may tie pretty heavily into the overarching mythos of theJohn Wickuniverse in an imposing way.

In a recent interview with Collider, Brown briefly discussed his work onJohn Wick 4while speaking about his impressively intimidating role on theDexter: New Bloodrevival. During the interview, he revealed that hisJohn Wick 4role may tie into the high-ranking elements of the series' criminal underworld, which honestly seems exactly like the kind of role somebody would cast this guy for. “I will say it’s more of the Table revealed,” Brown said. “More of the High Table, the kind of intricacies of that authority structure is revealed. With my guy. And I am in a couple of scenes that you could argue are action scenes, I suppose. A lot of my scenes are with Bill Skarsgård, which was a lot of fun.”
Fans ofJohn Wickas a franchise are likely familiar with the High Table, the council of elders which oversees the massive criminal underworld seen in the films. It’s unclear whether Brown’s comments suggest that he’s just an enforcer for them like Asia Kate Dillon’s Adjudicator character or actually a full-on member of the council. But his mention of Skarsgård,who was announced forJohn Wick 4last year, does have some implications about the other actor’s role, at least.
Brown also added that he was there for Lance Reddick’s last day of shooting. It’s unclear whether or not this is Reddick’s finale in the franchise or simply for the movie itself, but Brown went on to praise Reeves himself for his famously good-natured demeanor. “And I was there for Lance’s last evening, which was good,” Brown continued. “It was good because I really wanted to meet Lance… and all the reporting about what Keanu is is absolutely true, absolutely right. Keanu made it a point to come and celebrate Lance a bit in that last moment, which was really nice. Good guy. He’s a good guy, that Mr. Reeves.”
“He’s a good guy, that Mr. Reeves” sounds like the perfect descriptor of the actor (and possibly the title of an inevitable documentary). But that aside, the possibilities for Brown’s character are pretty intriguing. Does this mean John’s bloody quest to leave the assassin’s life behind will lead through Brown at some point? If it does, that’s bound to be one heck of an encounter. Unfortunately, afterJohn Wick 4was delayed last month, it looks like there’s now a lot of time for fans to speculate about such things.
