The latestTekken 8character reveal of Bryan Fury wasn’t supposed to happen as early as it did, and longtime series director Katsuhiro Harada wasn’t happy about it.Tekken 8was officially announced during a PlayStation State of Play last September, following a brief but ominous teaser at EVO 2022. Since then, publisher Bandai Namco has promised thatTekken 8will be much more aggressivethan the entries that came before it thanks to its new Heat and Rage gameplay mechanics.Tekken 8has also slowly revealed the various fan-favorite combatants who will be returning for the next battle, including someTekkencharacters that haven’t been seen in over 10 years. ThelatestTekken 8character revealcame earlier this week, with the resurrected police detective Bryan Fury emerging from the shadows to enact his revenge once more. As it turns out, Fury’s involvement inTekken 8was leaked ahead of schedule, upsetting Harada.RELATED:Tekken 8 Leaks Character Select ScreenIn a now-deleted tweet,Tekken 8director Katsuhiro Harada spoke out about the recentTekken 8character leak, which he says was the fault of Bandai Namco’s European division. “What the xxxx Bandai Namco Euro,” Harada’s message read. “That’s why I warned you years ago not to post on a timer. Well, I’m going home now, thanks! Ha ha ha.” Shortly after this,Tekken 8producer Michael Murray posted a tweet of his own, apologizing to Harada, theTekken 8development team, and theTekkenfanbase for the oversight.
This is far from the first time that Katsuhiro Harada and Michael Murray have voiced displeasure withthe development ofTekken 8. Back in April, the pair sat down for an interview and said they weren’t entirely happy withTekken 8’s alpha build graphics. However, they were optimistic thatTekken 8’s lightning would improve as the game nears its planned launch later this year, and Harada and Murray also discussed the challenges in deciding which members ofTekken’s large and eclectic cast of playable fighters would return to the latest installment.
Bandai Namco has now officially confirmed that Bryan Fury will be among thesereturningTekken 8characters, but his initial reveal wasn’t without backlash beyond Harada. While fans are certainly excited to see the undead cop-turned-remorseless killer inTekken 8, not everyone was happy with how his presence was leaked to the public before Bandai Namco was ready to unveil him.
