Set and primed for today’s launch,Lost Arkseems to be having a hard time dealing with the sheer number of players attempting to play the game. The Amazon-funded MMORPG has already grown to become one of the most popular games on Steam even before its full release, but the developer, Smilegate, is hoping to get a handle on long server queues in short order.
One of the ways in which Smilegate is attempting to alleviateLost Ark’s launch-day problems is to make server switching way easier for owners of the game’s Founder’s Packs. Namely, the items contained therein (resources, boosters, titles, etc.) will be provided to players again, as long as they choose to switch from playing on the most popular servers onto the less populated ones, instead.

This announcement comes less than 24 hours followingSmilegate’s attempts to limit the number of characterscreated on certain game servers, as it doesn’t seem like these initial measures were nearly good enough to ensure fast queue times for all players. What makes these issues particularly noteworthy is that they popped up beforeLost Ark’s actual launch. Since all Founder’s Pack owners were afforded three days' worth of early access to the game, it seems that Smilegate simply didn’t expect such a massive influx of players in the first place.
On top of giving Founder’s Pack owners all of their original goodies upon switching servers, Silver, Gold, and Platinum Founder’s Pack purchasers will also be afforded extra premium currency, the Royal Crystals. The specific amount varies from one Founder’s Pack to the next, depending on the amount of money that a player may have spent, but the currency should be a neat addition to customization-minded players, asLost Arkhas plenty of cosmetics on offer.
Though there have been somelocalization-related controversies surroundingLost Ark, the developer seems to be intent on not letting anything go wrong with how it handles paid content and cosmetics. There is, however, an end to Smilegate’s offer of compensation. Players have until February 14th, 12pm (PT) to select a new server and redeem their items, as the offer will no longer be valid afterward.
Note, too, that this will not be an ongoing deal. Smilegate’s blog post specifically says that this reimbursement of cosmetics and resources is a one-time offer, and that players ought to be mindful of the server they choose to redeem them on. To that end, it might not be a bad idea to check out at least a few different servers to see which works best. WithJapanese, Korean, and RussianLost Arkserversup and running from before the game’s launch in the west, odds are good that Smilegate will handle this reasonably well in the long run.
