However, the difference in experience when playing the two Spider-Men headliningMarvel’s Spider-Man 2’scast of charactersdoesn’t end there. As discovered by Reddit user NextNinjaa, the mission text in the game’s Mission tab changes depending on whether the player has Peter or Miles currently selected. For instance, when a new ally joins the fray during the mission “Hunt to Live, Live to Hunt,” Miles' mission text shows that the younger Spider-Man felt a bit left out from his exclusion in the mission’s events.
For each of the game’s 31 main story missions, Insomniac took the time to include summaries of each mission’s events from the perspective of both Spider-Men. This also extends to missions played exclusively from the perspective of either Peter or Miles, as well as thefinal boss fight ofMarvel’s Spider-Man 2. Although it’s a relatively small detail hidden in one of 2023’s biggest game releases, it’s always a welcome sight to see one of the game industry’s biggest developers use these snippets of text to help further flesh out the relationship of the game’s two main playable characters.
Although players have the option of speeding throughMarvel’s Spider-Man 2’s main campaignin as little as 12 hours, details like this help make the game a more rewarding experience when played at a more leisurely pace. It also helps sell the idea that the story ofMarvel’s Spider-Man 2isn’t just about Miles or Peter—it’s a riff on Ben Parker’s age-old adage. Over the course of the game’s events, players are treated to an evolution of the Spider-Man mantra: with shared power comes shared responsibility.
