While the Marvel characterWerewolf by Nightfirst appeared in the comics way back in 1972, the character has finally made his MCU debut with the Marvel Studios Special Presentation,Werewolf by Night, which premiered on Disney+ in October of 2022. The special introduces other important Marvel Comics figures like Elsa Bloodstone and Man-Thing.

As is the case with every new MCU project, fans are eager to see Gael García Bernal return as the lovable and sweet Jack Russell. With dozens of projects on Marvel Studios' calendar, there are plenty of opportunities for this nighttime monster to make an appearance. However, some upcoming MCU projects are a lot more likely to include Werewolf by Night in them than others.

10What If…?

It stands to reason that Gael García Bernal could reprise the role of Jack Russell through voiceover in the animated anthology series on Disney+.The first season ofWhat Iffeatures alternative storiesthat take place during several MCU movies, such asCaptain America: The First AvengerandGuardians of the Galaxy.

The light-hearted show is an opportunity to see fan-favorite Marvel characters in more humorous or absurd situations. One of these could somehow tie into the events of theWerewolf by Nightspecial, or feature the character in a team-up with unexpected characters. The character’s comedic aspects would certainly fit right in.

9Blade

Mahershala Ali is expected to star inBlade, the MCU-based reboot of the former Wesley Snipes character. The character made a voice-only appearance in a post-credits scene ofEternals, confronting Kit Harington’s Dane Whitman. However, more MCU characters could possibly be included inBlade, including Jack Russell.

The character of Werewolf by Night has had brief interactions with Eric Brooks in the comics. The two were both members of the supernatural team known as the Midnight Sons, and, given Blade’s profession as a vampire hunter, the appearance of a werewolf in the monster-focused movie, even if only in a post-credits scene, is entirely possible.

8Agatha: Coven Of Chaos

After the success and popularity ofWandaVision, Marvel announced there would be a Disney+ series focused on Kathryn Hahn’s witch Agatha Harkness. This came as a surprise to Marvel Comics fans, who only know Harkness for her minor appearances as a supporting character to Wanda Maximoff, as well as The Fantastic Four.

Nevertheless,Agatha: Coven of Chaosis expected to premiere during the MCU’s Phase 5. It’s unknown what the story will center around or if it will be a sequel toWandaVisionor a prequel about Hahn’s character. If it’s the latter, it would be interesting to see Jack Russell’s origins explored in this series as well, especially if it delves into magic items like the Bloodstone.

7Daredevil: Born Again

Many Marvel fans were pleased to know thatCharlie Cox would be returning as Matt Murdockin a Disney+ series. What drew fans' attention even more was the announcement that the series would have 18 episodes, a much higher number than most other MCU series on Disney+, which tend to stay limited to six or nine episodes.

With this much ground to cover for aDaredevilseries, there could be a lot of space for cameos of characters like Werewolf by Night. Despite the two characters' limited interaction in Marvel Comics, Werewolf by Night would certainly be a prime target for Matt Murdock’s nighttime vigilantism. Perhaps Murdock would even have to defend Jack’s actions in court.

6Thunderbolts

Thunderboltswill release in 2024 as the next big team-up movie for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The movie has been confirmed to center aroundaSuicide Squad-type team of misfit charactersgathered by Julia Louis-Dreyfus' Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. Confirmed heroes include Yelena, Bucky Barnes, Ghost, John Walker, Red Guardian, and Taskmaster.

However, it’s entirely possible that several members of the Thunderbolts have yet to be revealed. Harrison Ford is confirmed to be appearing as General Ross, who some speculate will become the Red Hulk in the movie. Perhaps there’s room for more monstrous characters like Werewolf by Night to be recruited into the team.

5Deadpool 3

With Deadpool making his official entrance into the MCU, all bets are off as to who will appear in the movie. Hugh Jackman is confirmed to reprise his role as Wolverine, so this movie could potentially be the biggest free-for-all of comic book characters sinceAvengers: Endgame. Werewolf by Night would be an easy character to slip in.

However, it may be more likely that Elsa Bloodstone will appear inDeadpool 3. The monster hunter has a romantic history with the fourth-wall-breaking mercenary in the comics. Though, given Elsa’s connection with Jack Russell and Ted the Man-Thing inWerewolf by Night, the monstrous duo will likely be roped into her adventures with Wilson.

4Avengers: Secret Wars

Of course, Jack Russell’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe may be determined by the presence of his sidekick, Ted the Man-Thing. The Lovecraftian monster appears inWerewolf by Night, though has a deep history in the comics. Particularly, the Man-Thing becomes the guardian of the Nexus of All Realities, a gateway between multiverses.

SinceAvengers: Secret Warswill likely revolve around the multiversal war teased by MCU projects likeLokiandDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the Man-Thing could step up to this role in the all-star movie. Additionally,it could feature the largest MCU cast to date, including Gael García Bernal returning as Werewolf by Night to join the fight.

3Scarlet Witch

Rumors have circled for quite a while regarding a soloScarlet Witchmovie led by Elizabeth Olsen. Nothing has been officially confirmed yet, especially given Wanda Maximoff’s dubious state at the end ofMultiverse of Madness. However, there are lots of possibilities for what a soloScarlet Witchmovie could focus on, perhaps with more supernatural heroes.

What would be most interesting about Jack Russell’s appearance in aScarlet Witchmovie is that the two characters have a lot in common. Because of his transformation, Jack is ostracized by humans despite his lack of control over his powers.Wanda is in quite a similar position inMultiverse of Madness, so perhaps the two could bond over this.

2Midnight Sons

Many Marvel fans are excited about the prospect of seeing the Midnight Sons in an official MCU project. The superhero team in the comics is composed of heroes who band together to stop supernatural threats. Their members have included Blade, Doctor Strange, Ghost Rider, Iron Fist, Moon Knight, Wong, and Morbius, among others.

Of course, Werewolf by Night and Man-Thing have both been members of the Midnight Sons in the comics as well. Since many of the existing members already have MCU counterparts, a Midnight Sons project can’t be too far off. Oscar Isaac even expressed his interest in a Midnight Sons movie during the promo tour ofMoon Knight’s first season.

1Moon Knight Season 2

More recently, Oscar Isaac has even alluded to negotiations taking place for a second season ofMoon Knight. The first season featured the actor playing dual roles asDID-patient Marc Spector, who lives a double lifeas a Brit named Steven Grant, with both serving the Egyptian moon god Khonshu as the sworn protector of night travelers.

Famously, there would be no Moon Knight without Werewolf by Night. Moon Knight made his first comic appearance in a 1975 issue ofWerewolf by Night’s solo comic series. The two start off as enemies, before later joining forces. It would be a nice tribute to Moon Knight’s origin to have Jack Russell make an appearance in the series' second season.
