Although it still looks pretty these days, there was a time whenSkyrimwas one of the most beautiful games around, but a new mod is looking to keep that fresh sheen on it by boosting some of the game’s textures to 8K. There are so many studios out there that would love to haveThe Elder Scrolls 5’s continued longevity, enjoying enormous success that keeps Bethesda’s 2011 RPG firmly in the AAA sphere. However, most fans are aware that the game has aged over the years.
Even so, vanillaSkyrimlooks breathtaking at times, with a host of gorgeous vistas to really immerse the player in this fantasy realm. The fact that it doesn’t look as pretty as it once did is not a bad thing, it’s just the way the industry has moved forward since. However, there are some in the modding community that like the idea ofTES5looking the best it can, even after all this time.

Take Nexus Mods user XilaMonstrr as a recent example. As spotted by DSO Gaming, this modder has taken it upon themselves to improve the graphics inSkyrim, more specifically, they’ve uploaded new and improved textures for the game’s landscapes. Called “Majestic Landscapes 8K-4K,” the mod does what the name suggests in that it optimizes and upscales the visuals for a highly detailed and more crisp visual feast. This is actually an updated version of a previous mod that implemented 2K textures. A number of uploaded images show the differences that have been made, giving the 11-year-old RPG a bit of a modern makeover.
There are manyways to improveSkyrim’s visualsfor anyone who isn’t a fan of the aging graphics, although some of the detailed texture packs will be a bit of a strain on older PC hardware. Of course, how a game looks is not the final word in whether it’s any good or not.TES5is still beloved, despite its many flaws, and what XilaMonstrr shows is that there are more than enough people willing to put in the work to keep it looking its best.
WhetherThe Elder Scrolls 6will enjoy such longevitycannot be said at this stage. There’s very little being said about when the next entry in the long-running series will see the light of day, and with Bethesda putting a lot of stock into finishingStarfield, it’s probably going to be a long time before fans get a whiff ofTES6.
Skyrimis available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
