Summary
In the lifetime after his reincarnation inMushoku Tensei,Rudeus Greyratalways found a way to live his life to the fullest in order to not regret the second chance he was given, and that is exemplified by his willingness to connect with other people in his life, rather than isolating himself like in his past life. Thisenables Rudeus to gain powerful alliesthat will inevitably help him, and also be able to protect the loved ones close to him.
Some of these allies can be said to be more precious than others due to their close relationship with Rudeus, their relative power compared to him, or simply how much they impacted the young Mage of Greyrat’s life. There are even some that can be called his enemies initially, but eventually grow to be close allies as the story progresses.

7Ghislaine Dedoldia
Rudeus' Guardian And Colleague
Initially appearing as Rudeus' chauffeur after he is forcibly relocated to the Citadel of Roa,Ghislainequickly becomes one of Rudeus' friends after she becomes his student, alongside her fierce pupil, Eris. He manages to convince her to learn about literacy and mathematics, which enables her to pay her last respects to Eris' parents, who she was unfortunately unable to save afterthe Teleport Incident. She also manages to save his life after a kidnapping scheme (which he designed to teach Eris a lesson) goes awry due to involvement from real bandits.
Ghislaine continues to be a valuable ally for Rudeus as she participates in the final battle against Hitogami’s apostle, managing to showcase her skill as a Sword King. After the story, she serves as one of Ariel’s close guards, fending off assassinations and political plots alike, all while instilling fear and authority into other nobles by being the imposing bodyguard of the Queen.
6Cliff Grimoire
Invaluable Ally From The Milis
Although his first meeting with Rudeus might not have left the best impression,Cliffquickly trusts the young magician after Rudeus helped him against harassment from his fellow students. They become further acquainted once Rudeus introduces Cliff to the love of his life, Elinalise Dragonroad, despite her reputation for not looking to be in a steady relationship. Their friendship quickly blossoms as Rudeus starts to involve Cliff in his daily routine, as well as helping with Nanahoshi’s experiments, and eventually, by marrying Elinalise.
Their relationship is strengthened further after countless events that revolve around Rudeus' plight against Hitogami, which eventually culminates in Cliff also aiding during a critical time in the Superd Village to cure a mysterious illness that intends to wipe out every Superd in the continent. Cliff is also one of the strongest magic users inMushoku Tenseithanks to hisaffinity to Healing Magic, enabling him to cure even the deadliest sickness in the series.
5Zanoba Shirone
Fellow Automata Enthusiast
Initially appearing as a cameo in the early episodes of the anime,Zanobaquickly takes the stage as one of Rudeus' closest confidants, as they share an earnest interest in sculpture and, in the future, automatas as well. Zanoba immediately recognizes Rudeus' talent at doll-making after seeing Roxy’s statue up close, which becomes one of his precious collections, before getting destroyed by Rinia and Pursena Adoldia due to losing a duel against the Beastfolks.
Rudeus quickly trusts Zanoba withhis family’s safetyas he is away to fight Hitogami’s apostle and pave the way for Orsted’s fight against the Human God, leaving the house and family defenseless and vulnerable to attacks. Zanoba, in return, also trusts Rudeus when he goes back to his homeland to help his brother, although it ultimately ends in failure due to interference by Hitogami. Nevertheless, Zanoba did not hold the failure against Rudeus, and their relationship grows ever stronger.
4Nanahoshi Shizuka
A Familiar Sight In A Strange Land
Nanahoshiquickly gains Rudeus' favor after she asks Orsted to heal him on a whim due to her fascination with Rudeus' apparent immunity towards the Dragon God, similar to herself. This quickly proves to be fruitful, as Rudeus confesses to be from the modern Japan, also similar to her, although he is reincarnated, while shewas simply teleportedto the Six-Faced World. They establish a working relationship at first, with Nanahoshi needing Rudeus' mana to power up a magic spell for her to return to her own world, and they quickly blossom into confidants as they learn to mutually trust each other.
Although their relationship is tested when Rudeus desperately wants to fight Orsted due to Hitogami’s coercion, Nanahoshi proves her trust as she willingly lends Rudeus the tools to summon Orsted in order to fight the Dragon God. Moreover, Rudeus continually visits Nanahoshi after she becomes sick with the mana syndrome due to her body’s incompability with the Six-Faced World.
3Ariel Anemoi Asura
Precious Highest Noble Ally
Even with Rudeus' apparent dislike towards the nobility, as he prefers to stay away from political machinations, he is eventually forced to partake in one, as he helped Sylphy’s closest confidant,Ariel, to a coronation in the Asura Kingdom. However, their relationship is already established long before her ascension, as Rudeus respectfully refers to her as Sylphy’s employer during their school days.
Thanks to Rudeus' help during the Succession War, which resulted in her ascension to Asura’s queen, Ariel swore on her life to aid both Rudeus and Orsted inbattle against Hitogami. Even w ithher dying breath, she mentioned to her successor to never become Rudeus' enemy, as she felt an unshakeable bond with him even in death.
2Ruijerd Superdia
Mentor And Trusted Friend
Despite his appearance as the fearsome and often misunderstood Superd,Ruijerdquickly gains Rudeus trust after the Teleport Incident, which results in the young magician’s teleportation onto the dangerous Demon Continent along with Eris. He both helped them by guarding them against fearsome creatures on the continent, while also teaching them precious battle experience that plays well into both Eris and Rudeus' development into capable fighters.
Rudeus even managed to find a possible solution toRuijerd’s curse as a Superdby spreading good words about him and his demonic tribe in his travels and quests alike. This furthers their relationship as close friends, as both are willing to die for each other even in extreme conditions, although this is put to test on several occasions due to Hitogami’s machinations.
1Orsted
Ex-Mortal Enemy Becoming A Trusted Boss
Not many people can attest to facing one of theSeven Great Powersand living to tell a tale about it. However, Rudeus manages to do so after two encounters with the second-strongest Seven Great Power,Orsted, although he technically loses both encounters. Thanks to their mutual understanding after their last fight, Orsted quickly becomes Rudeus' boss as he employs him under his care to face off against their mutual enemy, Hitogami, together.
Initially, Orsted kept Rudeus out of the loop by hiding several of his powers, including the reincarnation time-looping technique, as he is still wary of the young magician. However, as time goes on, he learns to trust his new comrades, and finally believes in defeating Hitogami with them once and for all.
