Earlier today,The Elder Scrolls Onlinereleased its latest expansion on PC and Stadia, with players now able to venture into Blackwood as they battle against Daedric forces. The DLC will launch next week for console players, however, while they wait, the game’s official YouTube channel has debuted an action-packed cinematic trailer for the entireGates of Oblivionsaga, filled with high stakes battles and plenty of nods toThe Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion.
Perhaps the biggest of these is the return of the RPG’s main villain,Mehrunes Dagon, who will once again fill the central antagonist role during this year’s lineup ofElder Scrolls OnlineDLC. Although fans have known he’ll be a big part of the game’s upcoming content for a while now, the trailer finally shows off the returning god of destruction in all his glory, as he wipes the floor with a party of Tamriel warriors.

The clip starts out with the four-person squad arriving in the Planes of Oblivion, with the setting’s lava lakes, piles of corpses, and intimidating towers all harkening back to the realm’s appearance inTheElder Scrolls 4.However, they’re quickly met by a far more imposing sight, with a towering, skyscraper-sized Mehurnes Dagon looming over the warriors as they flee in terror. The rest of the trailer follows Dagon attempting to summon a portal toTamriel, battling the four warriors as they try to thwart him and a Daedric minion wielding a fire-bound sword.
Just as the four-armed god is about to complete his mission, the heroes rally and manage to escape Dagon, running through the portal and closing it behind them. Yet, it’s clear he’s far from defeated, as the warriors re-emerging back in Tamriel realize another portal has opened and begin preparing for battle. Dagon will clearly be a big part of the upcomingElder Scrolls OnlineDLC and seemingly be far more threatening than his relatively short on-screen role at the end ofOblivion’smain questline.
As forBlackwooditself, the DLC will introduce an array of new features toThe Elder Scrolls Online.Players will be able to recruit NPC companions to aid them on their quests, while they’ll also be able to explore all of Blackwood and venture to the Planes of Oblivion through new world events.
There will also be an array of fresh side quests, item sets, challenges, and more, which players can complete alongside the add-on’s brand new story campaign.Blackwoodis the second inThe Elder Scrolls Online’syear-long Gates of Oblivion saga, which began withFlames of Ambitionback in March and will get two more DLCs in the months to come.
The Elder Scrolls Onlineis available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X ports arriving on June 15.
