Overwatchjust started its third and final Anniversary Remix event where iconic legendary and epic skins from over the years are getting remixed color variants. The Anniversary Remix events have replaced the usualOverwatchseasonal events, in this case, Summer Games. Most of the skins have been refreshing alternate looks to skins that have become fan favorites over the years. In what is being deemed the last event ofOverwatchbeforeOverwatch 2launches, the design team has produced a skin that is receiving high praise.
Overwatch’sskins are not shy in making pop culture references. For example, D. Va’s Cruiser skin is a callback to the classic cars and milkshake shops of the 1960s. Baptiste’s Funky skin, and Tracer’s comic book skin, also got a new colorway in thisOverwatch Anniversary Remix Volume 3 event, all borrowing inspiration from a different time and place, to name a few. One skin that was very popular for making a subtle reference to iconic media the first time around, is now fully embracing its inspiration andOverwatchfans are loving it.

Genji’s new “Genjiman” skin has dropped all the subtlety and has fully morphed into the Red Power Ranger homage in this event’s variant of the Sentai skin. The originalGenjiSentai skin was first released in 2017 as part ofOverwatch’sFirst Anniversary celebrations and had similarities to the Green Ranger. Super Sentai is the original Japanese property upon which thePower Rangerswere based on. The skin’s design doesn’t look like any one era ofPower Rangers, but instead feels like well-put-together elements from across the franchise and can easily fit into the multiverse ofPower Rangers.
Overwatchfans that have coins saved up can buy this skin for 3000 coins. If they don’t, they will have to continue grinding the levels to earnOverwatchloot boxesand hope that the skin drops for them that way. As far asOverwatchskins go, this may be an all-time great skin design and has become the target item for fans to try and get through loot boxes.
Community reception towards the Anniversary Remix events has been tepid at best with some not particularly thrilled that recolored past skins are being touted as “new” as thedevelopment team continues work onOverwatch 2. Despite mixed sentiments, in each Anniversary Remix Volume, there has been at least one skin that has received high praise from the fans. Even as they’re regarded as “just recolors,” the color concept and work put into these skins are remarkable and a fitting send-off forOverwatch.
Overwatch 2launches in early access on October 4 for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
