A large patch earlier this month addedseveral helpful features to Xbox consoles, including the featuring of gamertags alongside Discord friends and new sorting options for the store. Now, the newest fix looks to make using Microsoft Rewards easier than ever.Microsoft has heavily featured its Microsoft Rewards program as an added incentive allowing players to pick up new games and win special prizes. Players can accrue points through a variety of tasks ranging from playing games and earning achievements to using the Bing search browser. Microsoft has often offered staggering rewards for the service with custom-built consoles and PCs serving as grand prizes for some of its many Microsoft Rewards giveaways. The newly changed UI displays the player’s current reward points underneath their username in the top left alongside their total gamerscore. Microsoft had previously been confirmed to be testing a system to showMicrosoft Rewards pointsfrom the Xbox home screen. Many users will likely not see the update yet, however, as it was revealed to be slowly rolling out to testers and new users.
Microsoft’s emphasis on its rewards program comes as its major competitors have both featured their own player loyalty systems. Nintendo has featured some version of its “My Nintendo” reward system for multiple console generations, offering credits for purchases to use on both games and physical prizes through the service. Sony also debutedits PlayStation Stars programlast year, offering reward points and digital collectibles for buying games and completing unique tasks. Players using Microsoft Rewards can also obtain points for non-console tasks, like launching Microsoft’s own Edge web browser.
The newest update to the Xbox’s UI comes as Microsoft has made several notable changes to the console throughout the past year. Microsoft officially launched Discord integration late last year, allowing players tojoin Discord voice chats straight from their Xbox consoles. The hardware developer also debuted plans to make Xbox consoles more environmentally friendly earlier this year, as well as introducing new customization options.
