So is the case with one of the brand-new day one Xbox Game Pass games that was just added to the service a few days ago. Sam Barlow’sImmortalityjoined the Xbox Game Pass lineup on August 30, and it has rave reviews from critics. In fact,Immortality’s review scoresare high enough that it is one of the highest-rated overall new video game releases of the year, behind only FromSoftware’s open world action-RPG epicElden Ring. At the time of this writing,Immortalityhas a 92 overall rating on OpenCritic, and 94 and 90 respectively for the Xbox Series X and PC versions on Metacritic.

Expectations have been high forImmortality’s reviews well before the embargo lifted for most outlets. Print magazineEdge, one of the industry’s oldest gaming magazines that is still around today, awardedImmortalitya perfect 10/10 scoreweeks before anyone else was able to chime in. To put that into perspective,Edgehas only given 23 other games such high marks in its decades-long history, so it certainly gives the game more credibility.

Immortality Review Scores

Immortalityreviews have praised the cast, the acting, the story, and the game’s unique twist on the FMV formula that Barlow established withHer StoryandTelling Lies. But whileImmortalitycritic reviews have been overwhelmingly positive, the user score tells a different story.

The user score forImmortalityis currently 7.1, as it pertains to the PC version of the game at least. It seems some users aren’t impressed withImmortality’s FMV-style of gameplay. It’s far from a review bomb situation, though, as the lowest user review is currently a 7/10. The critic overall score is unlikely to fluctuate much in the days ahead, but the user score could change dramatically as more people play the game, so it will be interesting to see where it lands.

Luckily, it should be fairly easy for anyone interested inImmortalityto check it out if they so desire.Immortalityis a day one Xbox Game Pass game, and it’s readily available to play across both PC and Xbox Series X right now.
