TheNintendo Switchhas just rolled out update 16.0.0 for download. This update comes after Halloween’s15.0.1 Nintendo Switch update, which resolved an issue that caused Error Code: 2181-1000 to appear. That error used to occur when playing downloadable content for certain games on a console other than the user’s primary. It also fixed an issue that stopped players from taking screenshots during certain cutscenes for some games.Normally, main numbered patches cover a wider scope than decimal updates. An example of this would be theNintendo Switch 13.0.0 update which added Bluetooth audio support. Other major changes included the “Groups” feature from 14.0.0, the addition of Nintendo Switch Online to the Home menu per the 11.0.0 update, and other quality-of-life improvements. Surprisingly, update 16.0.0 seems to be a general update that mostly fixes undisclosed bugs.RELATED:Nintendo Gamers Have About a Year to Transfer Unused 3DS and Wii U FundsAccording to Nintendo’s support website, update 16.0.0 is currently available to patch the system. The website disclosed the two changes that it brings, with one being very specific and the other being very vague. The notes state thatNintendo Switchuser nicknames that cannot be used will be replaced with “???” and can be updated via the profile settings. Further notes indicate that general system stability improvements were also introduced to enhance the user’s experience.
It’s a little underwhelming considering otherpossible improvements that could be introduced to the Nintendo Switch. While no specific details were discussed regarding what the general system stability improvements entail, they may have been somewhat superficial if they were not explained further. There are a lot more quality-of-life changes that the Switch can still introduce in the near future. However, with the Switch now in its sixth year, one has to wonder how long the system has left in the tank before Nintendo transitions to its next-gen phase.
Aleak of the rumored Nintendo Switch 2suggests that the system’s successor is indeed in the works. While no timeline exists and no detailed or confirmed information has been discussed, the fact that a follow-up to the Nintendo Switch may be in the works could mean that technical support for the current system could be slowing down soon. Although Nintendo still provides post-life updates to some of their gadgets like the 3DS, Wii, and Wii U, it is possible that once this new console comes out, future updates for the current Switch might not introduce massive changes and instead just focus on improving stability. Hopefully, the next few Nintendo Switch updates introduce more meaty features that could make life better for Switch owners.
