Although part of the same franchise,OblivionandMorrowindlook and play somewhat differently, but a recent mod allows players to transfer their character from one to the other, essentially creating a new NPC. There have beenquite a fewElder Scrollsgamesover the years, with the series going all the way back to the mid-90s, and whileSkyrimis considered to be the most popular and certainly the most successful, the previous entries still have a strong community of players.
Although it was quite revolutionary when it was released in 2006,Oblivionis known these days for its repetitive voice acting, not to mention visuals that have clearly aged. However, the fact that it had full voice acting at all was something of a technical marvel at the time. There have also been a slew of mods that have come out over the past decade and a half, which have helped keep the fantasy RPG in the gaming spotlight in some respects. And now there is a mod that allows players to mix and match betweenElder Scrollstitles.

As spotted by PC Gamer, Nexus Mods user Nickies released “Nickies' Cross-Game Invader Add-On.” Essentially, this is a modification that mixesOblivionwithThe Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowindby implementing a way for people to transfer items, spells, and character data between the two games. A video shows the mod in action, in which the player can be seen placing some items fromMorrowindinto a chest, only for them to appear in real-time inOblivion. InTES4, the items then appear on theTES3character that’s been transferred over. The fact that this can be done on the fly is the icing on the cake, but it doesn’t end there. The description says players can import their character as an NPC follower or as a character they can play themselves.
It’s a pretty ambitious and clever crossover between these two RPGs. Perhaps not quite as ambitious as afan remake ofOblivioninSkyrim’s engine calledSkyblivion, but Nickies' mod is still very impressive. It’s a great way for fans of bothTESentries to switch and import their character and items, especially for those players who generally have similar builds and gameplay styles regardless of which installment it is.
DespiteSkyrimbeing the highest-selling Bethesda game,Oblivion,Morrowind, and even the earlier games all have their place in gaming history. The Elder Scrollsseries has been going for a long time, but this could well be the first instance when it’s possible to swap between games in real-time, mixing and matching character assets and spells.
The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivionis available on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
