Since Sony revealed thePS5 logo, it’s been abundantly clear that the new console is on its way to a proper announcement. The company has, after all, been talking far more about its plans for the next generation over the last few months, and with recent moves by the media giant seemingly leading to something big, it’s not out of the question for fans to expect it will all come to a head very soon.
One such hint that Sony has big console reveal plans came yesterday, January 27, where Sony filed an official trademark for thePlayStation 5at the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property. While it’s far from a surprise that the company is trademarking its next big hardware venture, it does begin to cement that Sony is finally getting ready to show something big.

Alongside revealing a logo, this trademark was one of the last pieces of the puzzle the company had to fit before alluding that it’s ready to finally show the world its console, making rumors that Sony is hosting a big event next month look ever more believable. For those unaware, its been heavily speculated upon for a while that thePlayStation 5 will be unveiled during a major reveal eventtaking place during the middle of February. Numerous leaks have supported the theory and with this new trademark in play, it’s beginning to look all the more likely that fans won’t have to wait long to see Sony’s next big piece of hardware.
What will be shown at this event aside from simply the PlayStation 5 is anyone’s guess, but it seems likely Sony will highlight some of the big games coming to the platform of which rumors seem to indicate there will be many. One PS5 leakspecifically cites that Sony will show the likes ofHorizon 2, Gran Turismo,aDemon Soulsremake, and a new IP from Sony Santa Monica calledLegendzat the show. While it should be taken with a pinch of salt, there’s no denying that all these supposed leaks corroborate on the fact that the company has a ton of big projects up its sleeve.
It’s not hard to see why either. Sony has been incredibly reserved when it comes to announcements over the last few years, missing E3 in 2019 and spending 2018’s conference only discussing already announced games. With Sony skipping E3 2020, it seems even more likely that fans will receive some massive news on the PlayStation 5 and its launch lineup in the coming months.
