One actor who was previously attached to Marvel Studios’Bladereboot has announced that they are no longer part of the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe project.

Marvel Studios revealed theBlademovie in 2019 and announced that the acclaimed actor Mahershala Ali would play the vampire hunter. Since the announcement, the film’s production has faced several problems. Last year, it was disclosed that the film is undergoing rewrites and has been pushed back to a 2025 release date. However, there’s another bump in the road for the Blade movie. One of the stars recently announced they won’t be in the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

MCU Blade Project

Speaking toVarietyduring the 55th NAACP Image Awards,actor Aaron Pierre confirmed that he is no longer attached to theBlademovie. When the journalist asked him about the movie and his character, the star made it clear that his character is not a part of the conversation now and won’t be appearing. Pierre said, “Early on, there were conversations. As the project evolved, I’m no longer part of that — attached.” Pierre’s addition to the Mahershala Ali-led MCU project was made public in 2022, during Bassam Tariq’s directorial tenure. While Pierre’s character remained undisclosed, his casting followed an extensive and meticulous selection process.

After casting Ali and Delroy Lindo in the movie, Pierre was chosen for an important role in the MCU project. This is the first time an actor from the upcoming film has come out and said that he is not appearing in it. Pierre made his debut in 2017 by appearing in supporting roles in a wide range of TV shows. Subsequently, he made his feature film debut with M. Night Shyamalan’sOldin 2021. Earlier, there wereseveral speculations that Ali has dropped out of the projectdue to some scripting issues. However, the actor didn’t take long to confirm that he would still be playing the titular character. Originally planned for 2023, the Blade movie got delayed to 2025 because of many production issues. Now, it’s hard to say when it will actually come out because of ongoing delays.

For the uninitiated, Blade is one of the most violent and graphic stories in Marvel Comics, and fans are expecting to see that level of violence in the movie too. According to reports, Marvel Studios hired Michael Green to do rewrites forBladeto keep its R-rating and viewers are excited to see what Kevin Feige and team would do with the source material. Previously, the human-vampire hybrid was played by Wesley Snipes in a trio of films, that began withBladeand ended withBlade: Trinity. The latter movie also starred Ryan Reynolds, who is set to make his official MCU debut in the upcomingDeadpool & Wolverine.

Bladeis currently scheduled to release in theaters on July 12, 2025.
