Summary
One Piecechapter 1102 dropped earlier today and it is safe to say that this week’s chapter was certainly one of the very best the fans havewitnessed in the Kuma flashback.Oda has a knack for flashbacks and they almost always end incredibly well. This time, Oda surpassed all expectations and delivered what could be considered the best chapter of 2023 and, by far, one of the best chapters ofOne Piecein its entirety.
This flashback has been nothing less than absolutely sensational for the fans to enjoy and while it was heartbreaking, it was one that tugged at the heartstrings of the fans and something that they will remember for years to come.

The New Era Begins
One Piecechapter 1102 was expected to take the flashback to its very climax and wrap it up and that is precisely what ended up happening. While most fans expected this to be the penultimate chapter, it ended up being the final chapter of the flashback and that was somewhat surprising. That is not to say that the chapter was rushed in any way. It was handled to perfection and there isn’t anything that one can fault in this week’s One Piece chapter. The chapter began with Bonney and her pirate crew on a journeyto find Kuma and Bonneyshowcased her incredible talent as a pirate to the fans properly. The pirate crew attacked a town where Marines were stationed and Bonney ran through them in the blink of an eye, turning all of them into either elderly or toddlers. This also explains why Bonney had a bad reputation since everywhere she went, the victims appeared to be old people or kids. This gave her a reputation for attacking old people and children which, in reality, wasn’t true.
Nonetheless, it just went to show how dangerous Bonney’s ability was and what she was capable of as a fighter. Regardless, Bonney’s main goal was to get to Kuma, however, even though she was so close to him, Kuma made it so that she couldn’t reach him, for her own safety, of course. Nonetheless, Bonney’s journey as a pirate had officially begun and Kuma was surprised to see how far she had come already. Meanwhile, in the East Blue, Luffy, who fans know to be Nika, was also starting his journey. After defeating Arlong, he was given a 30 million berry bounty and that was certainly staggering. Both Bonney and Luffy had made the beginning to journeys worth noticing and One Piece chapter 1102 paralleled these two characters very well.

Kuma On Sabaody
One Piece chapter 1102 was somewhat of a recap of events that had already happened in the story, such as the Straw Hat Pirates facing Kuma on Thriller Bark or getting decimated on Sabaody. However, this time, these events were told from a different point of view. This time, fans followed the point of view of Bartholomew Kuma, who was at these places, standing in the path of the pirate crew. On Thriller Bark, Kuma tested the resolve of the Straw Hat Pirates; he wanted to see whether the pirate crew was strong enough to stand united in the face of danger. He tested Zoro to the best of his limits and, unsurprisingly, he delivered.
Kuma then exclaimed that the crew had lived up to his expectations and that he expected nothing less from Dragon’s son. Later on, fans also got to see Kuma in Sabaody Archipelago. For one last time, Kuma saw his daughter smile before his memories would finally be erased. Meanwhile, Luffy and the Straw Hats delivered another miracle. He witnessed them striking the Celestial Dragons and according to Kuma, this is something that hasn’t happened for centuries. To Kuma, this was the defining moment where he felt that he needed to put all of his trust in Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates, and sacrifice himself for them.

When Kizaru came to the island, Kuma was the one who separated the crew and he did so in quite an incredible fashion. While Luffy was in tears over his weakness, Kuma was proud of him and just wanted to show him what the New World was like.
In a way,Kuma did the Straw Hat Pirates a favorby shielding the crew from destruction not just on Sabaody but in the New World as well.

Kuma Loses His Memories
One Piecechapter 1102 finally saw to it that Kuma lost his memories. Kuma met Vegapunk and he made it clear to him that Luffy was Dragon’s very own son. At the same time, Kuma also told him about Luffy’s abilities and the fact that he believes that Luffy is the savior of the world.Kuma believes that Nika might just be a legend, however, at the same time, he does believe that if someone is to save the world, it will be none other than Luffy. For that reason, has pinned all his hope on this pirate crew that he would love to help out. Before Kuma lost all his memories, he ordered Vegapunk to put a program in him that would allow him to defend the ship of the Straw Hat Pirates until one of them returned. This brilliantly ties into Kuma defending the ship during the timeskip and fans finally have their answer to that why he did it now.
Kuma extracted his memories before he died and then, the rest was history. Kuma would then proceed to have his memories completely erased and be turned into an eternal slave of the World Government. Before Kuma died, however, Saturn also made it clear that a self-destruct command was going to be installed in him and that this command would be invoked in case of need.

The Flashback Concludes
One Piecechapter 1102 ended on a tearful note, as everyone in the laboratory, including Vegapunk himself was left in tears. Kuma was about to lose his life for Bonney and the new age and he did not hesitate even once. Looking back at his life, Kuma felt nothing but happiness and was proud of the decisions that he took. Even though he was born into slavery, he never resorted to hatred. He dedicated his life to helping the weak and the innocent and he carried out the best justice that he thought he possibly could. Kuma raised Bonney the best way he could and became a true father to her.He saved the Straw Hat Piratesand entrusted the hope of the world to the hands of Bonney and Luffy.
Kuma is a true hero that nobody in theOne Pieceworld deserves and even though not many people know about his sacrifice, he is one to be remembered for ages. This could be seen when even a pragmatic person such as Vegapunk was reduced to tears. Everyone in the laboratory saluted Kuma for his bravery and for the person that he was. Unfortunately, in the end, Kuma had his memories erased and his last message to Vegapunk was to wish Bonney a happy 10th birthday when he next saw her and that is precisely where the flashback concluded. Now, the story is back in the present events, picking up from where fans left off previously, and things are only going to get more intense from here onwards.
