Summary
Jewelry Bonney is one of the Worst Generation pirates who was introduced to the fans during the Sabaody Archipelago arc. She went on to become an incredibly important character in the post-time skip ofOne Pieceas soon as the Final Saga started. Bonney has been heavily involved in the Egghead Island arc and there are quite a lot of mysteries surrounding her character still.

Her connection to Kuma was explored recently, but there is a lot that the fans still want answers to. One of the major concerns regarding Bonney is the fact that her true age seems to be deceiving. While Oda always draws Bonney like he would any other Straw Hat, there might be a good chance that she is aging herself up and there are things that back that up as well.
Bonney’s Age By Oda
Oda has previously mentioned the ages ofall the members of the Worst Generation.Naturally, that also includes Bonney herself. One would assume that the age that Oda has mentioned for Bonney is her true age. In SBS volume 68, Oda revealed the ages of all members of the Worst Generation accurately. It was revealed that Bonney is 24 years old in the SBS corner and that information is almost always very accurate. When Bonney was introduced, she was 22 years old and since the timeskip has happened, she is currently supposed to be 24.
However, the fans need to take into consideration a very important distinction that Oda makes when he gives the age of Bonney. Oda specifically mentions that due to her Devil Fruit powers, the age that he was giving to the fans for her was supposed to be just an estimation. This meant that Bonney was in the body of a 22-year-old when she was on Sabaody. The fact that she is currently 24 only applies to one particular appearance of hers. Her true age still remains to be a mystery. The fact that Oda went out of his way to specify that only goes to solidify the theory that Bonney might be hiding her true age. The matter of fact is that Bonney is a very mysterious character and a lot about her life is still under the wraps for the fans. As such, she could very well be altering her age to get by, and why that is the case is something that Oda could end up revealing further down the line. Right now, that appears to be something that he’s building towards.
Hints About Bonney Hiding Her Age
There are quite a few hints about Bonney hiding her true age, which suggests that she is indeed altering her appearance to present herself in a specific way. If 2 was her actual age, Oda would not have to specify it. It is quite clear that this would come into play later on in the story and that is why Oda made sure to let the fans know that her given age was only an estimation. While this is a very important hint, there are certainly more hints that have been sprinkled over the story that also suggest that Bonney might actually be a child. Most of these hints have come in Egghead Island and it appears that the true age of this character will be revealed to the fans before it wraps up.
The very first hint about her true age comes from Saturn, one of the Five Elders. When he was informed about Bonney being on Egghead, he went on to dismiss her by saying that she is just a little girl. This could be leading up to something, however, at the same time, it could also be Saturn simply comparing his own age to his. Given how old he is, Bonney would certainly be a little girl and nothing more than that. However, after that, there have been quite a few more instances in which Bonney has been referred to as a little girl. InOne Piecechapter 192, Kizaru, the Navy Admiral, also went on to sarcastically say that Bonney aged up quite a bit from the last time he saw her, and a bit too fast. This is yet another indication of the fact that Bonney might have used her powers to age herself up and that she is not showing her actual appearance to the fans.

More recently, inOne Piecechapter 1093,Vegapunk, the genius Navy scientist, also refers to Bonney as “just a little girl.” Once again, the idea that Bonney might be a child is being emphasized and this strengthens the theory that she is hiding her true age very well.
Bonney’s Current Age
Bonney’s current age could be anything. The fact is that her Devil Fruit allows her to manipulate her age and because of that, it is almost impossible to predict what her actual age is. However, fans do have some hints to go off of. At the very least,fans know that Bonney is Kuma’s daughterso she is definitely not older than in her mid-20s. At the same time, many people have referred to her as just a little girl, which suggests that she might actually be a teenager or, potentially even younger than that. Taking all that into consideration would suggest that, if Bonney is hiding a real age, then she is likely in her early teens or possibly a bit younger.
One confusing aspect of this theory, however, is the fact that Bonney was already born when Kuma and Vegapunk were working together. One major fact that counters the idea of Bonney aging up is the fact that Bonney herself says that she came to the island when she was a child. Furthermore, the fans also get to see a Kuma flashback where he is alive and well before being turned into a Pacifista and Bonney looks like a toddler in this flashback. However, technically, Bonney’s claim of coming to the island as a child wouldn’t entirely be wrong if that is her true age. Kuma and Vegapunk having their meeting doesn’t necessarily mean that it took place decades ago. The Pacifica project likely began work some four or five years ago. If this flashback was from that time, then Bonney’s current age would be closer to 10 or 12 at best.
Why Bonney Would Be Hiding Her Age
It is not clear why Bonney would be hiding her true age.However, fans can always theorize as to why that is the case. One particular reason for her to do that could be the fact that she wanted to help her father return to normal and for that, she ended up becoming a pirate. As a child, becoming a pirate would be nearly impossible for her and, for that reason, she could have possibly decided to age herself up and become an infamous figure across the seas. This would allow her to gain infamy as well as pose as a very strong individual who could safely sail the seas inOne Piecein order to get to her mission and save her father.
Curiously, if Bonney truly is as young as her early teens, then the fact that she had a bounty of 140 million berries before the timeskip is extremely impressive. The fact that she currently has a 320 million berry bounty would then be even more impressive, given that she is far from reaching her full potential as a fighter. Bonney might truly be a prodigy of theOne Pieceworld hiding in plain sight. The only thing fans can do right now is wait and see how the story unfolds around her.
