LEGO Ideas is a special website dedicated to hosting custom, community-driven LEGO projects that - if given enough attention - may result in a project’s official boxed LEGO release. It just so happens that Annapurna Interactive’sOuter Wildsis now being featured there, front-and-center.Custom LEGO sets are not a new thing, but the fact that LEGO Ideas allows people to try and whip up a collaboration with LEGO directly has led to a huge number of exciting projects hosted on the website. There’s even a small Hearthean mini-figure sitting in the cockpit. In fact, the set looks about as official and licensed as it gets, easily going toe to toe with the likes ofHorizon: ForbiddenWestTallneck LEGO setthat was released not long ago.
The set features classic LEGO attention to detail, even though it’s a custom build designed by user SuperSirLink, not dissimilar to the recentLEGO Normandy fromMass Effectgames. According to SuperSirLink, the set is customizable and has removable side pods for access to the ship’s interior. Inside, there’s a computer log system, the reactor core, an antigravity crystal, and gear inventory.
At the time of writing this article, the LEGO build of Hearthean’s ship has attained over 2,000 supporters out of 10,000 that are needed for LEGO to officially consider releasing the set. What’s more important, however, is that Annapurna Interactive’s developers themselves are backing the project and that there’s over a year’s worth of time left for it to reach its target audience. Just recently, for example, LEGO released aspecialJurassic ParkLEGO set commemorating the movie, so the Hearthean’s ship wouldn’t be out of place in any regard.
LEGO has got an admirable history of collaborating with all sorts of game publishers, developers, and communities in bringing various scenes and items from fan-favorite titles to LEGO life. One of the company’s latest collaborations was leaked just a few weeks back, in fact, featuring none other thanSuper Mario. Though there’s no word yet on when, exactly, would theseleaked Nintendo LEGO setsbe coming out, more information is bound to be coming soon.
Outer Wildsis now available on PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 platforms.
