Summary
There’s no doubt thatOverwatch 2has a certain appeal that brings in all types of gamers. The characters have interesting designs, thelore and universethat Activision-Blizzard built for the game has always held promise, and there’s a great competitive atmosphere for players to get involved in. Still,Overwatch 2is a competitive FPS game at its core, which means that gameplay favors players with fast reflexes, sharp aim, and the ability to outgun the enemy team.
This can be intimidating for newer FPS players who don’t possess these skills. Fret not, however, because many characters in the game are perfect for newcomers to jump into the game with!

9Mei
While Mei’s alternate fire sends out a precision icicle that may be tough for newer players to hit, her primary fire is more akin to an icy “flamethrower,” dealing large amounts of damage to enemiesright in front of her.
Mei’s abilities are kitted around survivability and taking on enemy players one at a time, which can help new FPS players ease into the game while still providinga lot of utilityto their team.

8Reaper
Reaper’s shotguns are great for players who don’t have a greatly developed sense of aim. As long as players are close to the enemy, and centering them somewhere on the screen, Reaper will do a ton of damage and help his team push some eliminations.
Reaper’s kit is also incredibly survivable, and his teleport helps newer players learn the ins and outs of the game’s maps. This character is a great pick for helping the teamandfor learning more about the game.

7Brigitte
Brigitte certainly isn’t the easiest Support character to pick up and play. She’s got a very high skill ceiling when it comes to one-hit combos and positioning. At the same time, as long as players are swinging the mace at the enemy’s face, they’re doing some damage and putting up healing for the team.
Knowing when to Shield Bash in or out and getting good Whipshot eliminations will come later, but Brigitte is a great character for new players to jump intoOverwatch 2with.

6Torbjorn
Torbjorn might not be the most optimal DPS character for new FPS players. His primary fire does a ton of damage, but it’s tricky to land shots with. His alternate fire is much easier to land, but it isn’t always worth using.
But every Torbjorn player instantly provides some utility to the team in theform of his turret: it will distract enemies, pressure them into making bad decisions, do a little chip damage, and help build ult charge!

5Symmetra
Symmetra isgreat for newer playersin much the same way Torbjorn is… except Symmetra does Torbjorn’s job much better, in many cases. Symmetra’s turrets are easy to place, they come off cooldown pretty consistently, and her primary fire is very simple to use effectively.
The teleporter and ultimate are also great tools for aiding the team, even if they can be a little tricky to learn strategies for. This Vishkar architect is a great first pick for any new player!

4Junkrat
The Junktown grenadier might not seem like an easy pick, what with his arcing grenades and skillful mine jumping. But getting some value from this character is fairly simple, allowing any new player to pick him up and help their team win the game.
Junkrat’s trap is a great way to knock an enemy out of commission before a fight even starts, and he has great one-shot potential. But spamming grenades down a choke point and preventing enemies from pushing straight to the objective is a completely valid playstyle that can help new players get a sense for the game, too.

3Reinhardt
The onlytank heromentioned thus far, Reinhardt is a very simple way to learn what is otherwise a very mechanically intensive role. Tanks need to bait out enemy cooldowns and make space for the team, which might be a daunting task for a newer player.
Reinhardt makes this job much easier. His shield is a great way to help the team push up and mitigate damage, and his hammer does a decent chunk of damage when push comes to shove. Fire Strikes are great for securing eliminations and quickly building Earthshatter, and the shoulder charge is a cheeky way to make picks on players who find themselves out of position.

2Mercy
A lot of people dog on Mercy for being alow-skill character, and that’s strictly untrue. Learning Mercy’s movement is incredibly difficult, and low-rank DPS players would never even be able to hit a top-tier Mercy. With that being said, Mercy is an easy character to pick up and play.
She doesn’t need to aim, and she has a ton of utility. She can heal the team in a pinch, but her true value comes from boosting the damage of her DPS teammates. Learning when to switch between the different staff boosts is important, and Mercy’s movement is a unique element that makes the character fun for players of any skill level.

1Lifeweaver
Another Support hero that doesn’t require intensive aim, Lifeweaver’s Thorn Volley simply isn’t the focus of his kit. His Healing Blossoms do great healing, his Life Grip and Petal Platform help teammates out in tough situations, and his ultimate can change the game in a single moment.
This is a greatly competitive hero that any new Overwatch player could pick up and play, and he does a great job of teaching the fundamentals of positioning and map control, to boot.
Overwatch 2is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.
