It’s unclear exactly how big of a roleJohn Cena’s Enigma character will play inOverwatch 2. However, Blizzard has said that fans can expect to see more of John Cena as The Enigma between now and August 10. There will also be an opportunity for fans to “actively participate” in the event, so it will be interesting to see what happens. This is a far cry from John Cena becoming a playable character inOverwatch 2as some fans might have guessed when he started teasing his potential involvement with the hero shooter, but it’s still possible that the character will become a bigger part of the game’s lore.
If The Enigma does become a more active part of theOverwatch 2narrative, some might find the character somewhat redundant since the hero shooter already has a hacker character. After all,Overwatch 2’s resident hacker Sombrahas been in the game since 2016. In fact, she was the second post-launch character added to theOverwatch 2roster after Support hero Ana. Sombra has undergone some major changes over the years, but her kit has always revolved around sneaking into the back line and making quick escapes.
And while some fans may be somewhat disappointed to find out that the John Cena teases haven’t resulted in him becoming a playable character in the game, the good news is that there is still a new character on the way forOverwatch 2. Blizzard has kept quiet about thenewOverwatch 2Support heroand what they may entail, but they are expected to join the roster with the Invasion update on August 10. With the Invasion update set to launch in less than a week’s time, fans should learn more about the character sooner rather than later.
In the meantime, fans can check out thenew Sojourn animated short inOverwatch 2as they prepare for the Invasion update and everything it’s bringing to the table.
Overwatch 2is out now in early access for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
