Overwatch,Blizzard’s team-based shooter, just got its Priority Pass updated. Players who lose a match will earn one pass, instead of the usual two passes, and players who waited longer than the estimated time will get a refund on their pass.Overwatchintroduced the Priority Pass for quicker quesin ranked role flex matches last November.
The update aims to discourage players from intentionally losing for the sake of earning priority passes, as throwing a game will only reward one pass instead of two. This part of theOverwatchupdate was well received by the community, as there would be fewer players who will be throwing matches. Unfortunately, there is also a problem with the Priority Pass system. Players are rewarded with six Passes as they win a game and get only one as they lose, making the pass less valuable.

Long-time players may recall the standard meta of having three tanks before theQuick Play and Competitive Play role queue system. The current meta’s team composition today is having two Damage, two Tanks, and two Supports in rank matches. Damage role players had it rough before the adjustments, as their queue times were significantly longer than those of the Tank and Support Role. Sometimes players who play the Damage role will voluntarily play other roles just to earn Passes.
Withthe sequel currently in development,Overwatch 2will receive more Support and Tank characters and hopefully, players wwill willingly play other roles other than Damage. TheHero 32 Echo being releasedincreased the list of Damage heroes to 17, which compared to the Tank role with only eight heroes and the Support having seven, is quite a lot. The lack of heroes in other roles has been a long-time complaint in theOverwatchcommunity. Jeff Kaplan did confirm thatOverwatch 2will be having more heroes in the Support and Tank roster, which are currently under development. WithOverwatch 2’s release date still unknown, players are keeping their fingers crossed with the hope that the other roles will finally get their much-awaited love in the sequel.
IfOverwatch 2is released this year, then hopefully characters that were teased in thelore of other Heroeswill appear in-game. Characters that were mentioned or hinted in the lore were speculated by fans in regards to their role and abilities in the game, and it will be interesting to see if any of the fan theories are correct. In the meantime, fans ofOverwatchcan wait in anticipation for new teasers and news that will hopefully be released soon.
Overwatchis now available on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
