Persona 5 Royalappears to be a hit on Steam as it surpasses the peak concurrent player count of several popular JRPGs.Persona 5 Royalofficially launched on PC and modern platformsa few days ago on October 21. It’s a port of the PS4 version that came out in 2020, which itself is an upgraded version of the originalPersona 5released in 2017.
Persona 5 Royalcomes with several enhancements overPersona 5including a new story arc, two new confidants, revised dungeons for better flow, and tons of other quality-of-life improvements. It also runs at 60 FPS with the release of the new version, giving users a smoother gameplay experience. It looks likePersona 5 Royal’s Steam release is a big success, especially when compared to other JRPGs on PC.

According to SteamDB,Persona 5 Royalhad a peak concurrent player count of 35,474. 27,605 users are playing it at the time of this writing, with 32,452 being its peak simultaneous number in the last 24 hours.P5Rhas already passed the highest number of active players forPersona 4 Goldenas it peaked at 29,984 users. It should be noted thatP4Gwas released at a much cheaper price point, andP5Ris a fully-priced game on Steam.
Comparisons with other JRGPs are perhaps more interesting, as it bests some other popular games. The peak concurrent user count has surpassed the likes ofFinal Fantasy 15,Final Fantasy 7 Remake Integrade,Dragon Quest 11, andYakuza: Like a Dragonon Steam. It has also surpassed other games by Japanese developers such asNier: AutomataandDragon Ball Z: Kakarot. It should be noted not that all of these games,such asFinal Fantasy 7 Remake Integrade, were released on Steam on day one, so the numbers may be skewed in some cases.
On the other hand,Persona 5 Royalwill probably not come close to the highest peak simultaneous player counts ofFinal Fantasy 14andTales of Arise. They appear to be some of the most popular JRPGs on Steam, withTales of Arisehaving a peak of 60,274 users andFinal Fantasy 14sitting at an impressive 95,150.
Persona 5 Royalis also available on Xbox Game Passas a day-one release, so this number is only for the Steam version.P4GandP3Pare also set to launch on Xbox Game Pass on day one when they come out early next year.
