And with PSO2: NGS having finished its Anniversary Event, now is as good a time as any for players to either import their PSO2 characters to try out this upgrade of the game.
However, for fans who want to make their characters from scratch, theymight want to learn more about the starting Races and Classesthey could pick. These considerations are important especially for the starting few hours in the world of New Genesis.
For Newcomers: Character Creation
Newcomers toNew Genesiscan expect a typicalPhantasy Starexperience when whipping out the Character Creator. As withPSO2, players are expected tochoose a Racealongside the customization of their “ideal” character’s appearance. Of course, with the improved graphics ofNew Genesis, players can expect much more depth with their character designs.
Character Creation has seven steps. Each one is dedicated to fleshing out a specific aspect of the character in question. Here’s a breakdown of each stage in the process.
Step 1: Race Selection
Before players can customize their characters to the fullest, they first need to choose a Race. There are currently four Races inNew Genesis, taken fromPSOlore. Here are their basic descriptions:
Step 2: Body Type Selection
Each Race has various options for Body Types, which essentially provide a “framework” for the overall aesthetic changes once the character editor is used. These Types depend on the Race chosen, but they do have these basic distinctions:
Step 3A: Editing Menu
After players choose their Race and Body Type, they can proceed to the Character Creation proper, where they can customize their characters fully. There are a ton of options here, as most parts of the body can be edited. Within each set body part, here are some of the expected adjustable settings:

Step 3B: Editing Proper
The Editing Menu itself is scattered across five different parts, each corresponding to the body. Here are those parts, alongside the adjustable settings within each of them:
Edit Head:This area primarily pertains to how the character’s head looks. These settings include adjusting the appearance of the face, the hair, and other elements from the shoulders up.
Edit Body:This corresponds to the overall appearance of the character’s body and torso, including limbs and specific parts of the limbs. Regions and options here include:
Step 4: Edit Fashion
When players are done editing the overall Head and Body of their character, the Character Creation heads over to the next step: Fashion. This aspect of Character Creation ties heavily into the overall cosmetics associated with the character in question. These include clothes and the order they’re worn. Players can even add stickers.
Edit Fashion:This corresponds to the basic clothing the character will be wearing once they enter the game.
Edit Misc:This pertains to other Miscellaneous elements the character may have in terms of appearance, that doesn’t fall within the other categories.

Misc. Tests:This menu pertains to other tests the character might have to take to check their viability within the context of the game.
One peculiar thing that could be adjusted here would be character motions. Instead of all characters having the same set of “movements,” the game lets players choose how their characters move and involuntarily move depending on the situation. Players can change the way their characters run, leap, hover, and wait, lending them a sense of individuality.
Step 5: Class Selection
Although it is not a “cosmetic” aspect of Character Creation, once players make a basic appearance for their character, they can chooseone of the sixNew GenesisClasses. Upon selection, characters will receive the basic equipment of the Class they’ve chosen. These will be added to their overall “looks” as well.
Don’t worry, as this initial Class selection only gives characters the default appearance of the chosenClass inNew Genesis. At some point in the game, players will be able to not only switch their Class but also have a Sub-Class, allowing them to use both the skills and abilities of their chosen Class combinations. Step 6: Miscellaneous Adjustments
On top of the rather extensive customization options players could do with the Character Creator are some miscellaneous adjustments they could provide their characters. Although minuscule compared to the vast swath of sliders players could use to tinker with their character’s body,New Genesisoffers new bodily additions that match well with its updated graphics engine. Players can now modify:
Step 6: The Naming
When players choose a Class, they’re basically set to playNew Genesis. They just need to think of a name for their particular character, to give them an identity within the world truly.
Step 8: Confirmation
After choosing a name, characters need to confirm the details they’ve provided to the Character Creation screen. They can change any number of these elements as they wish. Once done, players can finally create their character and enter the world ofNew Genesis.
For Returnees: Progress Transfer
Players ofPSO2may look atNew Genesisnot just as a new experience set far into the future. ForPSO2savants, the revamped graphics and gameplay can bring an entirely new dimension to their old characters.
New Genesisallows existing players to “import” theirPSO2characters into the update. That way, veterans of the game can actually play as theirPSO2characters inNew Genesis.
What Happens During The Transfer?
It’s natural for players who spent hundreds of hours into theirPSO2characters to feel worried about what happens to their progress during the shift toNew Genesis. First, it’s important to remember that bothPSO2andNew Genesisrun on the same client. This means that players can potentially play two “different” games using the same launcher. The transfer process itself depends on which platformsPSO2players are using. It also depends on where they plan on playingNew Genesis. SinceNew Genesisis currently available for PC and Xbox, there exists two methods to make this character transfer:
For PC and Xbox:In the case of Xbox users playing on the PC, they need to download the client from the Microsoft Store and log in with their Xbox Gamertag. Upon loading, gamers with priorPSO2data should have their progress transferred over toNew Genesis.
