After 15 years since the release ofPokemon DiamondandPearl, Generation 4 came back in the form ofPokemon Brilliant DiamondandShining Pearl, just a little under two weeks ago.Pokemonfans had been hoping for Generation 4 remakes for a long time prior to the official news, andPokemon Brilliant DiamondandShining Pearl’s sales numbers do show that many players were eager to get their hands on the new Switch games. Despite the remakes being great titles to add to thePokemonfranchise, they are also quite flawed, with several glitches and weird animations going on.
Pokemon Brilliant DiamondandShining Pearlplayers have encountered invisible NPCs, glitched backgrounds, wrong box Legendary Pokemon in-game, and more. This is not to say the games are bad, just that they are not as polished as one would think, especially considering that some of the issues reported by players were also present in the original games. Among these things, something that manyPokemon Brilliant DiamondandShining Pearlplayers found either amusing or very disappointing is that some Pokemon have bad walking animations when they are out of their Poke Balls and accompanying their Trainers in their adventure through Sinnoh.

The Worst Walking Animations in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl
A walking animation that is not entirely bad is that of Garchomp, who also ended upscaring Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl playersdue to its bizarre and menacing flight. What’s strange is that many players saw Garchomp as a Pokemon that couldn’t fly, hence why its typing is Dragon/Ground. With Garchomp being a bit shark-like in its appearance, players assumed it would at best learn how to surf, even though that’s not really in line with its Ground type, but flying was something that no one really expected.
Pokemon Brilliant DiamondandShining Pearl’s Ekans also got a lot of criticism for its walking animation, which basically means that the snake Pokemon glides on the ground. This is especially disappointing because Ekans and Arbok got great, unique walking animations inPokemon Let’s Go, Pikachu!andPokemon Let’s Go, Eevee!, making players wonder why ILCA Inc. didn’t use those as a springboard for their work onPokemon Brilliant DiamondandShining Pearl. Ekans is also a not very popular Pokemon, and it is only obtainable in the remakes after beating the entire game.
A similar approach for bad walking animations was used for two other snake-like Pokemon: Rayquaza andMilotic. In this case, both critters are much more popular than Ekans, with the former being one of the most renowned Legendary Pokemon of the series, and the latter being an iconic Water-type Pokemon from Generation 4. Both Pokemon simply float, gliding over the terrain without actually moving, which is both hilarious and infuriating to see. Furthermore, Rayquaza is also extremely tiny compared to its actual size, and this has always been a problem with bigger Pokemon, like Wailord.
MoreLegendary PokemoninPokemon Brilliant DiamondandShining Pearldon’t really live up to the hype when it comes to their walking animations, even though they’re not as bad as Rayquaza’s, Milotic’s, and Ekans'. These Pokemon are the three Lake Guardians - Azelf, Uxie, and Mespirit - and Jirachi. The main issue with these four is that they have a bit of movement to their ribbons or body parts, but for the most part, they too float over the ground. Overall, it’s strange that some ofPokemon Let’s Gogames' animations weren’t ported intoPokemon Brilliant DiamondandShining Pearl, but the same bad patterns in Gen 4 remakes are shared by most of the Pokemon that did disappoint the community. There is hope for the future, however, if The Pokemon Company and Nintendo use the remakes as a springboard to do better.
