ThePokemonanime has been airing for decades now, with protagonist Ash Ketchum having a variety of companions at his side on his adventures. In the earliest episodes of thePokemonanime series, Ash was aligned with Misty and Brock, the latter of whom joined Ash after being bested in a Gym battle. As thePokemonanime series has continued, different companions have come and gone, but Brock remains a fan favorite.

Brock has been mentioned in the latest iteration of thePokemonanime,Pokemon Journeys, but hasn’t made a full-blown appearance just yet. It’s looking like that will change with the upcoming four-part episode based onPokemon Legends: Arceus, which will air in Japan on Amazon Prime later this month to coincide with the launch of the upcoming Nintendo Switch exclusive game. It’s difficult to say exactly what Brock will be doing in the anime special, but he can be standing alongside the likes of Dawn, Ash, andGohin an image shared by a fan.

It’s unclear when exactly thisPokemon Journeysanime special will air outside of Japan. As it stands,Pokemon Master Journeysis airing on Netflixin the US, and it’s quite a ways behind the Japanese version of the show. Fans of thePokemonanime will just have to stay tuned for more information on that front, but they shouldn’t expect to get to see the new episodes in time forPokemon Legends: Arceusto launch on the Switch.

This is far from the first time that Brock has returned to thePokemonanime series. Brock left Ash and Misty during the Orange Islands storyline, but later returned to explore theJohto regionwith his friends. He would then continue exploring thePokemonworld with Ash during the seasons of the show based on theRuby & SapphireandDiamond & Pearlgames, though Misty didn’t return for those episodes.

Brock eventually left his friends again to become a Pokemon doctor, but has made sporadic appearances since, showing up in seasons of thePokemonanime based onPokemon Black & Whiteas well asPokemon Sun & Moon.

Brock’s return to thePokemonanime serieswon’t be a permanent one, but it will be interesting to see what exactly he does in the four-part special once it airs in Japan later this month. In the meantime,Pokemonfans can look forward to the launch ofPokemon Legends: Arceuson the Nintendo Switch come Friday, January 28.
