While fans of thePokemonfranchise wait for the release ofPokemon Scarlet andViolet, they have done much speculating about what these games might have to offer. These fans have even taken to creating interesting fan art based on the information available thus far. In the latest example of this, one creator showed off what the title screen ofPokemon Scarlet and Violetmight look like on a Game Boy Color.
The ninth generation ofPokemonwas first revealed in February of this year and will officially begin with the release ofPokemon ScarletandVioletin November 2022. At the moment, there is only a handful of Pokemon from this generation officially confirmed from these games, including the region’s starters and a pair of Legendary Pokemon.

This nostalgic creation comes from the mind of u/HiraWhitedragon, and it is a perfect throwback for those Game Boy Color fans. This creation features a blacked-out version of what looks to be Koraidon, the Legendary Pokemon associated withPokemon Scarlet. In this 8-bit fan art, the Pokemon’s shape moves across a desert-like area while the entire scene is underneath the title of the game. For those players of the earlyPokemongames, especially those who played on a Game Boy Color, this should be immediately recognizable. Much likePokemon Gold,Silver, andCrystal, this creation features the game’s most recognizable legendary as it moves with the flow of the screen.
The title screens of early games featured the Pokemon the game was most known for and then rotated through the region’s roster. This transitioned to something much more like what viewers see here with the release ofPokemon GoldandSilver. ThoughPokemon ScarletandVioletwill not see life on a Game Boy Color, this creation is actually a perfect match for the style for which that handheld device was known.
While the title screens ofmodern-dayPokemongamesare much more intense and visually impressive, fans of the original games will likely have a soft spot for title screens in this art style. That 8-bit style will always be nostalgic for those who took part in the early games in the franchise.
Then again, though the 8-bit style will likely always appear in fan-made creations and in other franchises, the visuals of today’s games are always going to impress. They are also unlikely to revert anytime soon. Either way, this player showed off just whatPokemon Scarletwould look like if it were to release in the late 1990s.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violetrelease on November 18 for Nintendo Switch.
