Red Dead Redemptionis a Western open-world series that needs no introduction. With its immersive storytelling, realistic graphics, and vast open world, it’s no wonder why this series has grown in popularity over the years despite only having two mainline games. Players love stepping into the shoes of a grizzled outlaw across both games in a captivating Wild West setting that allows them to live out their cowboy fantasies.

Fans of the series are eagerly awaiting the release ofRed Dead Redemption 3, with many speculating on who the protagonist of the game would be. The previous games have featured iconic characters such as John Marston and Arthur Morgan, leaving fans wondering who could possibly take their place. Thankfully, there are already several candidates that can fit the bill for players who want to control a familiar character in a new open-world adventure.
8Sadie Adler
Sadie Adler is a fierce and independent woman who becomes a trusted member of the Van der Linde gang after her husband is murdered by the O’Driscoll Boys. Instead of losing herself in grief, she decides to learn the tricks of the trade andbecomes a skilled and competent shooter.
Her strength and loyalty to the people who stood by her make her one of the best and most likable characters in the series. Suffice it to say, a game that places her story front and center will be quite welcome indeed.

7Dutch Van Der Linde
Red Dead Redemption 2was technically a prequel, so it wouldn’t be completely out there for the third game to go even further back in time. This leads to many candidates being ripe for the picking as a protagonist in a new game, with Dutch Van der Linde being an obvious mention.
He is the charismatic leader of the Van der Linde gang who believes in freedom and autonomy above all else. However, as the story progresses, a string of personal losses leads to Dutch’s ideology becoming warped, causing more harm than good to the gang.

6Hosea Matthews
A death that caused Dutch to go over the deep end is that of Hosea Matthews, his close friend and confidant. This man wasa wise and experienced member of the Van der Linde gang, acting as a mentor to Dutch and a father figure to the rest of the gang.

A prequel that focuses on his character and his bond with Dutch would be quite interesting indeed. It’s a shame that this character dies in such an unceremonious manner, and everyone would agree that, out of everyone in the game, Hosea deserved better.
5Jack Marston
Jack Marston isthe son of John and Abigail, who becomes a playable character in the epilogue of the firstRed Dead Redemptiongame. He’s a headstrong young man who’s determined to live up to his father’s legacy, carrying out his revenge against those who wronged his family.
Many people felt that Jack was a pretty annoying character who doesn’t deserve to take over his father’s mantle at the end ofRed Dead Redemption. However, an entire game that focuses on Jack’s story may just redeem him in the eyes of many.

4Landon Ricketts
Landon Ricketts is a retired gunslinger who is somewhat of a legend. Even with his best years behind him, Landon is still an expert shooter and strikes fear in the hearts of his enemies when he decides to pull out his revolver.
He’s a grizzled veteran with a dry sense of humor, who helps John out during the events of the first game. Fans would love to witness this character’s journey from a nobody to a legendifRed Dead Redemption 3goes down that route.

3Charles Smith
The Van der Linde gang had members from all walks of life, including the honorable Charles Smith. He’s a quiet and reserved man, which could definitely make him a great candidate as a protagonist in a newRed Dead Redemptiontitle.

As a Native American, Charles can allow players to experience a rougher and more discriminatory side to the injustices in the Wild West firsthand. That being said, integrating an Honor system may be harder with Charles as a protagonist since he would never do anything even remotely dishonorable.
2Josiah Trelawny
Josiah Trelawny is a cunning individual who is one of the few lucky people to surviveafter being involved with Dutch’s gang. He’s pretty self-sufficient, making him a unique choice for a protagonist if things do go down that path.
He’s a charming gentleman who loves his family despite not being able to spend too much time with them. There are many unexplained aspects of this character that can be explored quite a bit if his story takes center stage in a new game.

1Bonnie MacFarlane
Most people may be puzzled by the prospect of Bonnie MacFarlane being a protagonist. She may be a strong and independent woman…but she’s also a rancher with little to no combat experience who is far from an ideal candidate for the lead role in a game where gunslinging is a huge part of the experience.
A new game can start off with Bonnie learning the ropes of gunslinging, with the character possibly using Dead Eye in a tense firefight a few hours into the game. From a gameplay standpoint, she’s a blank slate and can be used rather efficiently to tell a compelling talein a newRed Dead Redemptionentry.
