Since it was announced earlier this year, the new tiers forPlayStation Plushave had fans of Sony’s platform interested in the additions to its subscription service. Replacing PlayStation Now, the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium tiers offer users an upgrade from the traditionalPlayStation Plus. For an additional monthly fee, fans will have access to hundreds of older Sony titles, and with the Premium tier they can enjoy cloud streaming of PS3, PS2, and PSP games.
As therelease date for the new PlayStation Plusdraws closer, some fans have been wondering about the prices for their region. When PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium were first announced, Sony only revealed the prices for Japan, the United States, Europe, and the United Kingdom. This meant that other large gaming audiences in places like Australia and Canada were left mostly in the dark about how much they’d have to pay if they wanted to upgrade their subscriptions. Now, these prices have been revealed officially on the PlayStation website.
PlayStation users in both Canada and Australia have recently discovered that the prices for their respective tiered subscription services are now live on Sony’s website. In Australia’s case, some had wondered whether they would be getting the Premium subscription tier at all, as it was said to only be available for countries that already had access to thePlayStation Now streaming service. Unfortunately, Australia’s PlayStation Plus Deluxe will miss out on some PlayStation Plus Premium games, but it does come at a slightly cheaper price point when converting Australian dollars to US dollars.
Canada, on the other hand, gains access to the PlayStation Plus Premium tier, and as fans check over the pricing on Sony’s website, they can see whether its worth making the jump right now. For a while, there was a loophole that allowed PlayStation owners to purchase PlayStation Now subscriptions for the current price that would then automaticallyupgrade to PlayStation Plus Premium at no additional cost. Sony has since closed this loophole, but it did give plenty of fans some cheaper years of PS Plus Premium.
This news follows a recent report that, as well as giving fans access to cloud streaming and older Sony titles,PlayStation Plus Premium will also give users game trials. These trials will be timed, and according to the report any new game priced at $34 or higher will have to offer a demo that is at least two hours long. Other games are said to be excluded from this new rule, however.
