To sayRainbow Six Siegehas a ton of gadgets would be an understatement. Each of the game’s operators has their own unique gadget that distinguishes them from one another. These gadgets range from something as simple as Sledge’s Breaching Hammer to a more complex gadgetlike Azami’s Kiba Barrier. Signature gadgets are game-changers, and are why both teams strive to identify the other team’s operators before engaging them.

In addition to the operators' signature gadgets, both attackers and defenders are given a secondary gadget that can aid them in combat. Smoke grenades, frag grenades, and nitro cells are just a few secondary gadgets that, when used properly, can drastically change the landscape of a map and even turn the tide of battle. The main problem with some of these projectile-based gadgets isRainbow Six Siegecan make it very hard to aim them properly.

HUD Elements Make Thrown Projectiles a Guessing Game

While players have a big reticle in the center of the screen that gives them a general direction where the projectile will be thrown, there is no clear indicator for where it will land. This makes it extremely hard to throw things like grenades into small openings and throughmetal frames that separate vertical floors on maps. Even players with hours of experience inRainbow Six Siegemay fumble their projectile tosses, which result in hilarious instances like a grenade bouncing back and killing the one who threw it.

Some operators' primary gadgets are projectiles that work with the same system. Ying’s Candela flash charges, when improperly thrown, can blind her entire team for seconds and potentially cause her to throw the match. Even if she manages to get some enemy team in the crossfire, the chance that her teammates will accidentally shoot each other while attempting to shoot the enemy is high. That isn’t even considering the possibility that the defending team would have a Warden - whose Glance Smart Glasses can hard-counter Ying’s Candelas. What’s worse, damaging gadgetslike Tachanka’s Shumikha launcherlaunch projectiles that bounce once before detonating. Without a proper indicator, launching fire grenades can cause them to ricochet back and damage allies.

A Projectile Indicator Could Help Rainbow Six Siege

The developer possibly uses the lack of a projectile indicator to better simulate real-life tactical operations, butRainbow Six Siegeis plenty unrealistic without it.Smoke can throw a gas grenadethat doesn’t affect him, barbed wire slows down attackers but not defenders, and for some reason all these operators are shooting live rounds while just preparing for their battles against a terrorist organization. With all these unrealistic elements already in place, it wouldn’t be much of a stretch if Ubisoft were to add a projectile indicator to the game.

The inclusion of a projectile indicator would allow players to see the potential arc of items. If Ubisoft wants to go the extra mile, it could even show how these projectiles would bounce off surfaces, and their final landing place. Doing so would cause players to fumble less with their projectiles and prevent the unforeseen consequences of tossing one improperly. It would also allow for more consistent plays that make good use of projectiles. Many aRainbow Six Siegeplayerhas pulled off amazing feats like throwing a cooked frag grenade through a drone hole, only for it to take out an enemy player. Adding this feature inRainbow Six Siegewould make throwing projectiles easier for all players.

Rainbow Six Siegeis available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
