Summary
Scrap inRemnant 2is a lot more of a precious resource than it was in the previous game,Remnant: From the Ashes. In that game, all players had to do was walk through a couple of maps, smashing anything that even looked breakable, snatch up all the Scrap that popped out and reset until they were sitting on a massive pile of Scrap.

InRemnant 2, the devs at Gunfire Gamesmade it more difficult to farm(and rightfully so). Because of this, players need to be a bit more frugal with what they spend their Scrap on, especially early on. With that in mind, let’s go over what exactly playersshould resist purchasing as a mistakefrom Merchants.
8Antidote: Curative
There are a lot of Consumables that players will steadily accrue from random drops or Chests over the course of their playthrough inRemnant 2such as Bandages, Oilskin Balm, or Ammo Boxes. Antidotes seem to pop up as random drops less often, but that doesn’t mean the Traveler needs to waste their scrap on purchasing it from Dr. Norah in Ward 13.
As it turns out, there are really only a few enemies/bosses that inflict the Corroded effect inRemnant 2(no swampy Corsus map in this game, after all), and the Corroded Ailment as a whole only lasts about 10 seconds. So, while the Acid Resistance effect of an Antidote is notable, the time the animation of using it would take mid-fight to get rid of the Corroded Ailment is time that’s much better spent actually hitting the boss to end the fight faster.

7Dark Fluid: Concoction
There are a whole lot of different Concoctions players will find throughout the multitude of Realms inRemnant 2. While a large portion of these end up being sold by Mud Tooth (as he’ll learn how to make whatever Concoctions the player has on them when talking to the old guy), some are originally only found in very specific areas
Dark Fluid, for example, is a Concoction that players originally get from the Drzyr Replicator on N’Erud, but it’s not worth paying for more than once to teach Mud Tooth the recipe. While the evade cost reduction it grants is nice, the evade distance and combat slide buff is so unnecessary. And, it’s especially unnecessary when the Concoction is taking up a precious ‘active’ slot that would be better used by something like Mudtooth’s Tonic or Sanguine Vapor.

6Ethereal Orb: Curative
For much the same reason that Antidote feels a bit unnecessary to actually use, Ethereal Orbs are even more unnecessary.

In fact, once players experience the ‘Overloaded’ Status Ailment a couple of times, they should be able to just evade through the second ‘pop’ of electricity that this Ailment triggers on them before fading away. Learning how to dodge roll through the Overloaded burst completely nullifies any real reason to use Ethereal Orbs at all. However, the Shock Resistance it gives can be noticeably helpful when used against specific bosses, but enough to be worth spending precious Scrap on.
5Purified Salve: Curative
This next Consumable is one that falls into a specific category called ‘items that are made useless by a Ring’s effect’. which is shockingly a category with more than one item in it. Basically, once players obtain a specific Ring called the Hex Ward Ring, there’s zero reason to use this Curative over just equipping the Ring before the one real fight where Curse is an issue,AKA the battle against the Red Prince.
If anything, just make one of these things at Nimue’s Merchant shop (among many other items) and then go back to Ward 13 and talk to Dr. Norah so that she’ll start stocking it as well. But this is more for the sake of convenience than anything else, as the Salve is still almost never worth buying from Dr. Norah either.

4Rocket Fuel: Consumable
Honestly, it’s a pretty safe bet to say that mostRemnant 2players aren’t even aware that there’s a Consumable called Rocket Fuel. Finding this Consumable sitting around in one of the highly-varied worlds ofRemnant 2is already a rare occurrence, so the most any averageRemnant 2player has seen of this Consumable is in loading screens when the game is cycling through item description.
As a Consumable overall, while the Fire Rate increase might seem nice, theMelee Attack Speed is a very niche effectand the duration of the buff is barely long enough to last through a single boss fight phase in general. So, it’s another example of it being more of a risk to use it mid-fight for a small buff than the benefit that risk would bring.

3Worn Admiral’s Ring: Ring
Next up is finally an item that isn’t a Consumable, Concoction, or Curative, it’s the Worn Admiral’s Ring. Fans ofRemnant: From the Asheswill recognize this Ring, as it’s the Ring a lot of overconfident Soulslike fans bought from Reggie in their first playthrough of that game to ‘buff’ themselves, only to quickly unequip it as it promptly led to them getting one-shotted by basic enemies.

And, let’s be blunt,Remnant 2is harder thanRemnant: From the Ashes, and basic enemies can already one-shot players on both the Nightmareand Apocalypse difficulties. So, wasting Scrap on a Ring that anyone besides ‘godlike gamers’ and speedrunners won’t end up making use of just doesn’t seem like the best idea.
2Bloodmoon Altar’s Sanguine Fluid: Concoction
Sanguine Fluid is actually, compared to the rest of this list, a Concoction that is well worth using. But, if that’s the case, why is this entry recommending that players avoid spending Scrap on it? Well, to be more specific, players should not waste their Scrap getting Sanguine Fluid from the Bloodmoon Altar in Yaesha, they can absolutely spend Scrap (and should) to get it from Mud Tooth. So, just play through Yaesha until the Imperial Gardens map shows up, then progress through this area like usual andsolve the puzzle leading to the Crossbow at the end. On the other side of the room with the Crossbow should be a chest with a Sanguine Vapor inside.
Keep this Vapor in the Traveler’s inventory and then go talk to Mud Tooth. After this, Mud Tooth should offer the Concoction himself, and then there’s never any reason to get one from the Bloodmoon Altar ever again.

1Timeworn Unguent: Curative
For basically all the reasons that players shouldn’t waste Scrap on the Purified Salve, they also shouldn’t spend Scrap on the Timeworn Unguent. It’s another one of those ‘items that are made useless by a Ring’s effect’ Curatives. Funnily enough, in the same place players can buy the Timeworn Unguent, AKA the Dryzr Replicator on N’Erud, they can also just buy the Suppression Ward Ring instead and use that whenever Suppression seems like it’ll actually be a concern. And, considering that N’Erud really seems like the only place where Suppression is inflicted, even the Suppression Ward is a bit of an unnecessary purchase.
Remnant 2is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
