The modding community has been hard at work since the remake ofResident Evil 4dropped in March, and a recent one has players take on the role of Super Mario, with Luigi alongside him. As aseries that helped define survival horrorin the early days, Capcom’sREbrand has pretty much become synonymous with the genre. Helping to influence subsequent games and studios that came after it, the franchise has been a staple in the mainstream industry.
Generally regarded asone of the bestResident Evilentries of all time, the fourth installment was something of a game changer when it came out in 2005. Although it leaned more towards action, which some people would actually find detrimental to the fifth and sixth games, its impact on survival horror is still felt to this day. Given its iconic status, it’s no wonder many were keen to play an official reimagining of it.

Of course, it didn’t take long for modders to get their hands on the remake ofResident Evil 4and begin tinkering with it. A recent one comes from Nexus Mods user Supreme Leader and allows players to fill the mighty boots of Mario. The mod itself replaces Leon Kennedy with the titular plumber, with Luigi taking over the role of Luis. A number of images show the pair in the horror game, and while they do look out of place, they seem more than ready for action. Others commenting on the mod page have asked whether it would be possible to swap out Ashley for Princess Peach or get Bowser to replace Krauser.
There’s no telling what’s next when it comes tomodding the remake ofResident Evil 4. The game is still pretty new, but already there are plenty of ways for PC players to get the most out of it, with fan-made content like costume swaps and general quality-of-life changes. As successful as the remake has been, it seems evident that there will always be room for improvement.
Alongside mods, some have also been challenging themselves byspeedrunning throughResident Evil 4, setting new records and showing the world that it’s possible to beat the game in less than two hours. There are a few who have even managed to zoom through the remake on Professional mode, which is quite a feat in itself. No doubt as the game sells more copies, others will come along to take on such challenges and more modifications will likely be on the horizon.
