As Krauser’s student, Leon, like his teacher, believes that knives are faster than guns — especially when the enemy is too close. In the originalResident Evil 4, he had a boot knife that could deflect projectiles, break boxes, and slice enemies. But in the remake, he starts off with a combat blade that can do more.

All Knives
Disposable ones included, there are five knives in theRE4remake:Combat Knife, Fighting Knife, Primal Knife, Boot Knife, and Kitchen Knife. Of these, only the first three (Combat, Fighting, and Primal) can be used as Leon’s primary melee weapon; the other two are single-use.
Combat Knife
The Combat Knife is a military blade that Marvin Branagh gifted Leon in theResident Evil 2remake. Stat-wise, it is the fastest melee weapon in the game, and its fully upgraded version is as powerful as a Level-1 SG-09R. Because the Combat Knife is already in Leon’s inventory atthe start of Chapter 1, the player doesn’t need to do anything to obtain it.
Fighting Knife
A military-style survival blade, the Fighting Knife is Krauser’s weapon of choice. It is considered the most powerful melee weapon, with a whopping power of 3.60 at max. It takes down weak enemies with one to two stabs. Toget the Fighting Knife, the player must defeat Krauser in Chapter 13.
Primal Knife
Also known as the infinite knife,the Primal Knifeis a melee weapon with a unique perk: It can become indestructible. A fully upgraded Primal Knife won’t break mid-battle, cutting the extra repair costs. But the player can only get it afterdestroying all 16 Clockwork Castellans.
Boot Knife
A Boot Knife is a pocket-size blade that Zealots carry. Of course, they do not attack the player with these knives, but they may drop one upon dying. With a max power of 0.50, Boot Knives canparry one to two attacksand often break after stabbing an enemy once.
Kitchen Knife
A kitchen knife is the weakest blade in the game. It comes with 0.25 durability and 0.50 power, which is why it breaks after the first stab or parry and falls short of killing most enemies — even with a direct stab to the head or neck. To get Kitchen Knives, the player must loot drawers and closets.
