Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon Cityis set to release next month, with the movie retelling the story of the first twoResident Evilgames, which will see both the Spencer Mansion incident and the fall of Raccoon City blended together despite taking place two months apart in the games. The movie will feature many of the characters from both games includingChris and Claire Redfield, Jill Valentine, Leon Kennedy, and Albert Wesker.
Ahead of its release next month, new teaser videos have begun being released which give a greater insight into each of the movie’s main characters, providing some back story as well as detailing some of the changes that have been made to them when compared to the games. One of these videos showcases Albert Wesker, the main villain of theResident Evilseriesup until 2009’sResident Evil 5, and the video confirms some exciting news for fans.

In theResident Evilvideo that was released via GameSpot, it was revealed that the movie will see Albert Wesker become a more likable character as opposed to a “stereotypical villain,” with him being very cold and robotic in the first title. Instead, he will be in a relationship with Jill Valentine, another S.T.A.R.S member, which will certainly make his villainous reveal much more shocking and painful for his teammates. During the video, the classic Moonlight Sonata scene plays out from the first game, with the song being played on a piano opening a secret room.
This time, it is Albert Wesker that is playing the piano, playing the song one note at a time in a rather awkward fashion. It is interesting that they chose Wesker to play this song, with it originally being played by either Jill Valentine or Rebecca Chambers, as Chris can’t read music. The actor that plays Jill, Hannah John-Kamen, is a skilled piano player in real life so it would have been good to see her be able to showcase her skills in the movie.
TheResident Evilmovie franchise has certainly had its ups and downs since it began in 2002, with many of the movies that were directed by Paul W.S. Anderson receiving criticism from both viewers and critics. This new reboot looks tobring theResident Evilseries closer to its video game counterpartsand it will be interesting to see how close the movie gets to the games, although what has been released so far shows it should be accurate, as well aspotentially setting up aResident Evilsequel.
