TheNintendo Switchhas dominated the market since its launch in March of 2017, and it has not shown signs of stopping. TheSwitch recently surpassed the Xbox 360and PS3 with now nearly 90 million units sold, a remarkable number. But now, according to a rumor, Nintendo’s red-hot hybrid console could be receiving a price cut, at least in Europe.
Theupcoming release of the Nintendo Switch OLED Modelmeans that there will be three versions to choose from. The original Switch is still an option, the Switch Lite has been a massive hit and actually outsold the regular Switch in 2020, and now the Switch OLED is on the way. The various console models all come at different prices, but the standard Switch model may be soon dropping in its price.

According to a gaming news source in France called Nintend’Alerts, theNintendo Switchwill be receiving a price cut from the regular €330 to a new lower price of €270 on this upcoming Monday. That would be quite the drop in price, but a welcome one. It could be that the price cut is something that is planned with the worldwide launch of the Switch OLED Model on October 8.
It is important to note that Nintendo handles prices a bit differently in Europe than in other places, as there is not necessarily a set-in-stone suggested retail price. Prices can fluctuate based on stock and demand. That being said, Nintendo’s handheld and home hybrid console has not had issues flying off shelves in the region as it outsold every other console combined in the UK in 2020, and theSwitch is on pace to possibly be the best selling console of all time. So if true, the price cut could be temporary.
A permanent price cut to the Nintendo Switch perhaps would be surprising. Currently, the console has been so successful, it does not seem necessary. Withmassive games likeMetroid Dreadon the way, as well asPokemon Brilliant DiamondandPokemon Shining PearlandMario Party Superstarslater this year, the Switch will seemingly continue to sell. Meanwhile, 2022 looks like one of the console’s best yet in terms of its software lineup withPokemon Legends: Arceus,the sequel toThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, Splatoon 3,and more. Fans would certainly appreciate a console price cut, but it may or may not be needed.
