Rockstar Games releasedRed Dead Redemption 2to rave reviews in 2018, with it quickly becoming one of the highest-rated video game releases of all time.Red Dead Redemption 2was initially only available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but a year later, Rockstar brought the open world epic to PC and Google Stadia. Now fans are wondering whenRed Dead Redemption 2might make its way to next-generation consoles, and while an official announcement has not been made at the time of this writing, a leaker believes that it’s going to happen at some point.

Leaker AccountNgt says that anext-gen version ofRed Dead Redemption 2is coming, but that’s all the information they have for now. As it stands, there are no native PS5 or Xbox Series X versions ofRed Dead Redemption 2available, though playing the game on the newer hardware does result in better performance. Native versions would, of course, yield even greater results, and so that’s why some fans want to see the game make the jump.

IfRed Dead Redemption 2receives a PS5 and Xbox Series X upgrade as rumored, it may result in some controversy. After all, thenext-gen versions ofGrand Theft Auto 5required fans to buy it even if they already owned the older versions of the game, and so it’s highly likely that Rockstar will charge for anyRDR2next-gen upgrade as opposed to giving it away for free like other companies have been known to do.

Something else that might stir up some controversy if such a project is announced is thecurrent state ofRed Dead Online. Many fans have criticized Rockstar Games for neglectingRed Dead Online, with the company instead focused on releasing new content forGrand Theft Auto Online, a game that’s nearly 10 years old at this point. If Rockstar spends resources portingRed Dead Redemption 2to PS5 and Xbox Series X instead of making new content forRDO, it’s liable to upset some members of the community.

Others, however, may jump at the opportunity toreliveRed Dead Redemption 2on newer hardware. PS5 and Xbox Series X versions of the classic western game could provide superior graphics when compared to the older versions of the game, not to mention better load times and perhaps even some new content for fans to check out, depending on how ambitious it is. Of course, it’s also possible that there aren’t really any plans to bringRed Dead Redemption 2to next-gen consoles, and so it’s best for fans to keep their expectations in check.

Red Dead Redemption 2is out now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
