With the game launching in early December,Cyberpunk 2077has dominated the top of the Steam charts since before it was even released, with CD Projekt Red’s controversial sci-fi RPG reigning supreme for 7 weeks. Although a number of games have come close to surpassing it, withSea of Thievesclosing in on the crown the week before last, it seemsCyberpunkhas finally been moved down the list by a classic Steam hit.
The game in question is none other thanRust,with the incredibly popular multiplayer post-apocalyptic survival game managing to clinch the top spot last week over 7 years since its original debut back in 2013. It’s not all too surprising consideringRusthas had something of a resurgence as of late, with a number of streamers hopping back into the game in recent weeks.

Due to the introduction of the admittedlycontroversial OfflineTV server, Pokimane, xQc, Valkyrie, and more have broadcastRustto the world, while even streamers outside of that bubble, such as Jacksepticeye, have got involved too. The game even managed to crack over $1,000,000 in Steam revenue on two separate days during this month alone. Clearly, it’s continuing to generate a huge audience despite being available for years now, with the team continuing to innovate and expand on the game’s concept to create a survival experience like no other.
It seemsRustwill be looking to conquer new platforms very soon as well, with recent ratings from the ESRB confirming that theformerly PC-exclusive survival title will be making its way to consolessooner rather than later. The console ports have been in the works for a while now, originally being announced back in November 2019 before receiving a delay last year. According to the ratings, it will be coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, sporting a mature rating due to bloody violence and cannibalism amongst a variety of other reasons cited by the certification.
AlthoughRusttook the top spot on the Steam rankings last week, the lineup was filled with interesting games, asCyberpunk 2077dropping to 3rd,Sea of Thievesmaintained its decent sales with a fourth-place spot, andPhasmophobiacontinuing to dominate by bumping up to fifth. It’ll be interesting to see how Steam’s rankings look further into 2021, especially with the likes ofIO Interactive’sHitman 3, The Medium,andLittle Nightmares 2all making their way to Valve’s seminal PC marketplace very soon. Regardless,Rustis clearly enjoying a newfound surge of players and could continue to do so with so much new attention from Twitch viewers.
