Somebody is about to make one heck of a jump in genres. The freshly-hypedScream 6has just added Henry Czerny to its ranks, and he’s someone who’s used to a heart-pounding theater experience. But maybe it isn’t quite the same.

Czerny, who played Eugene Kittridge way back in 1996 forthe first timelessMission: Impossiblemovieand is currently set to reprise the role in the next entry, has just joined the cast of the upcoming slasher sequelScream 6. The Canadian actor will be joining a collection of new and returning stars from the series of films that enjoyed a resurgence in popularity thanks to 2022’sScream, which served as the 5th movie in the franchise. It’s unknown who he will be playing, but filming is set to begin shortly.

Aside from Czerny,Scream 6will also include returning actors Hayden Panettiere, Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, and Jenna Ortega. Dermot Mulroney, Jack Champion, Liana Liberato, Devyn Nekoda, and Josh Segarra have also been tapped to join the cast of the sequel. Plot details are scarce, though it appears thatScream 6will take place in New York Cityand follow the survivors of the killings as they attempt to start new lives away from the franchise’s fictional town of Woodsboro.

Czerny has enjoyed a seasoned career in show business over the years, with roles in films like the aforementionedMission: Impossible,Clear and Present Danger, and the 2019 comedy horror filmReady or Not. Interestingly, the latter also saw Czerny working with directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who are both also behind the dual helms ofScream 6. At the very least, having that experience together should help make it easier to get the best performance possible out of the actor.

Screamendeared audiences when its first movie debuted in 1996. Serving as awell-crafted yet sincere parodyof slasher films, it managed to turn the whole genre on its head, injecting comedy and genuine thrills into a field of films that some felt was growing stale. 1997’sScream 2followed suit, with many considering it just as good as its predecessor. Over the years and through 3 more subsequent sequels (including a TV series), it continued to grow its fanbase even as some viewers began to claim it had become the very kind of franchise it intended to satirize. But the audiences kept coming, so the sequels kept dropping.

Now, withScream 6ready to start production, it doesn’t look like anybody’s ready to stop hearingthe terrifying tales of Woodsboro. Sure, it definitely has its critics, as most long-running franchises do. But maybe someone like Czerny is exactly the shot in the arm needed to freshen things up a bit.

Scream 6is set to premiere on March 31st, 2023.
