Sea of Thievesdoes an excellent job at making players get the feel of being pirates and exploring the vast sea, be it uncharted islands or underwater Shrines.Shrine of Ancient Tears, situated on the south side of the map, is the home to boundless treasures. However, these treasures are locked behind numerous puzzles and timed trials the players must go through.

Not only does the Shrine have journals that grant the player a Commendation and trophy/achievement, but also rare weapon items such asTrident of Dark Tidesand the newly addedHorn of the Fair Winds.

Where To Find The Shrine Of Ancient Tears In Sea Of Thieves

The Shrine of Ancient Tears is located on the Southeast ofThieves' Havenisland on N20 on the map. Once you arrive at the location, you may spot multiple colored lighting spiraling upwards, indicating the exact location where you have to dive in.

Anchor your boat and swim down until you get close to the broken ship. Turn around from the ship and you will be able to see a glowing rock on the wall that you can shoot to enter the upper part of the Shrine. Refill your ammunition, take what you can from the barrels, and go forward to jump down the well into the water.

All Journal Locations In the Shrine Of Ancient Tears

Shrine of Ancient Tears has five journals that players must find in order to receive thetrophy/achievement. These are not well hidden but not also in plain sight, so you might need to look in places where you usually would not think of looking. Below is a table showing the image and location of where these journals can be found.

There aren’t many enemies in this Shrine, but it is best to bring food and throwables just in case.

Shrine of Ancient Tears

Once inside the well, swim up and climb out using the small ladder on the edge. Turn left, and you’re able to find the first journal past the treasure statue on the lower part of the pedestal.

Strange Tales

Go up the staircase to your left (from the well ladder) until you see a ladder that you can climb. Proceed further by climbing another ladder and jumping on the coral platforms until you reach a room with a Lever. Move it, turn back, and jump down into the well. Look around for a small room here with a fire mural on the wall. The second journal should be on top of the pedestal in the middle of this small room.

The Chest of Everlasting Sorrow

After interacting with the previous journal, light the four Torches to open up two doors. One that hasBreath of the Seaon it and the other doorway which leads to another Lever. You can only acquire Breath of the Sea if you arrive at this Shrine after collecting aCoral Message in a Bottlefound on shorelines or shipwrecks. After interacting with the lever, take what treasure you can and head to the staircase, lighting the four torches on each corner. Once all the torches are lit, run and step on the four pressure plates located near these lit torches. This will open up two paths for you to explore. First, head up the staircase and through the waterfall to find the third journal on top of a barrel on your right.

Fate of the Silver Blade

Light the four torches in this room and head back down the staircase, this time through the waterfall on the ground floor. You will come to a room with four pillars with animal symbols on top of them. The first pillar on your right has the fourth journal leaning onto the pillar.

Return of the Silver Blade

For this last journal, you will need to make your way to the Turtle puzzle room and head right twice till you reach a dark area with a Torch ahead of you. Light it and pick up the journal right next to it.

Solving the Animal Puzzles

After collecting the first four journals and during the last journal, you will come to an area with multiple levers and torches that must be interacted with. Completing all of these puzzles opens up the main vault near the four pillars at the start of this area.

Every room in this section has multiple Levers that you must interact with, and these must be done within a time period, or they will reset.

Solution

Butterfly

From the main pillar room in front of you, head right, light the torch here, and proceed further ahead to find another torch on the right. Now press the lever here and run to the first torch you just lit to interact with the second lever. Keep running straight to find a torch on the left and the last Butterfly lever on the right. This will open the door in front of you.

Turtle

Go forward and deal with the skeletonusing your weapon. Take out your lamp and light the torch on the right next to the broken pillar. Light the torch on the left and head straight towards the blocked door to find another torch on the right. Head back and turn right through the red glowing coral rocks on the roof. There should be a torch on the left, just past the glowing rocks, and then a torch right in front of you. Turn right to find another torch and this is the same location where you find the last journal. Look to your right to see the first lever, pull it, and head back to the second lever on your right next to another torch. Head back past the broken pillar to activate the lever straight ahead, and this should open the door in front of you.

Bird

As soon as you enter this area, light the torch on your left, then proceed ahead to the left to find a torch on the right, followed by two torches on the left, one after the other. Deal with the skeletons chasing you and interact with the lever near the last torch. Head back to the start of this area, interact with the lever on the left, and step on the pressure plate to open up another lever on the right inside the wall. This should open up the last puzzle area.

Crab

Interact with the the torch on the left and then immediately the one on the right. Proceed further ahead to find a torch on the right of the treasure statue. Light it and head left to reach the final torch on the left wall. Press on the second pressure plate from the final torch to open up a lever on the wall with the crab painted on it. Go to the second torch and stand on the pressure plate right next to it to open up a lever on the right wall. The last lever should be in the small room on the right at the far end near the barrels.
