By now, there are probably only a few people out there who have yet to play Bethesda’s monstrously successful RPGThe Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, and even those who haven’t played it probably know more about it than they realize. Asone of the best games for inducing mindfulnessin its fans, even beating out the likes ofMinecraft, the open world epic has all but transcended the video game sphere to become something of a cultural phenomenon. One of the reasons behind its popularity is down to how recognizable elements of it are, to such an extent that they can be rebuilt in other games with verisimilitude.
Streamer DrGluon has recently uploaded a short video on their YouTube channel in which they have managed to recreate assets fromSkyriminThe Sims 4.Specifically they’ve rebuilt the city of Whiterun. The clip shows parts of the city which fans of the game will easily recognize, including the marketplace, stairs to Dragonsreach, as well as Dragonsreach itself, and the Gildergreen tree. There’s even a brief moment where viewers can see a Sims character sat in Balgruuf the Greater’s throne.

Anyone interested can go to DrGluon’s Twitch channel to see the VOD of the original broadcast, which shows the streamer building the city inThe Sims 4, dedicating roughly three and half hours of the stream to the build. Given thatWhiterun is one ofSkyrim’s most popular cities, largely because it’s one of the first players encounter, it’s not surprising that fans would be interested in recreating it in another game’s engine.
It’s also quite interesting that they’ve chosen tobuild the city inThe Sims 4, which, while it does have a building mechanic as many already know, may not be the first option that some would choose when deciding to recreate something fromSkyrim. Most would probably go for something likeMinecraft, which is the obvious choice, so it’s interesting that DrGluon has opted for something a bit different.
Bethesda’s decade-old entry in theElder Scrollsseries does not seem to be slowing down any time soon in terms of its popularity. Asone of the best RPGs ever made, there are seemingly myriad ways for fans to show their appreciation, whether it’s rebuilding Whiterun inThe Sims 4, creating mods, or making fan art. It begs the question of whether the next installment in the series will leave behind such an impact in its wake.
