Endnight Games has released Patch 05 forSons of the Forest, the follow-up to the 2018 indie titleThe Forest, adding plenty of changes, improvements, and bug fixes. With therecent releases of the hotly anticipatedDead Island 2andResident Evil 4remake, as well as upcoming new entries in theOutlastandLayers of Fearseries, it’s clear that the survival horror genre is thriving this generation.

Released in early access a few months ago,Sons of the Foresthas already had several major updates, with the studio putting in a lot of effort to get the game in good shape before its final release, whenever that may be. Its horror elements combined with cooperative elements made it a hit when it first came out, selling two million copies within the space of 24 hours. While the hype has died down quite a bit since then, the sequel still has its dedicated followers.

The developer seems keen on givingSons of the Foresta lot of love, and Patch 05 continues to add improvements to the title. According to a recent post on the game’s Steam page, this latest significant update implements a number of changes, such as adding 79 new ponds and 34 new lakes, giving players the ability to play guitar, adding new wearable clothes, updating the GPS map to reflect the new locations, and much more. There are also plenty of bug fixes, chief among them being that players can no longer drink lava, as well as some tweaks to Kelvin to make him a more helpful character.

When it was released,Kelvin becameSons of the Forest’s star NPC. His role in the game is not only to assist the player by performing a series of commands, such as gathering wood, but also providing company for those going it alone. Of course, he’s by no means perfect, especially given the game is still in early access, but he’s being improved upon all the time, and Patch 05 adds new commands that allow him to now reset traps and fill log sheds.

As mentioned above, there was a lot of hype for Endnight’s game just before it came out and shortly after release, though it quickly waned. However, at one pointSons of the Forestwas the most wishlisted game on Steam, even beating outStarfield. That’s certainly no mean feat for an indie studio.
