ABC’sWho The Bossentertained viewers for eight seasons after debuting in 1984 and become one of the most successful sitcoms of the mid-eighties. Now, Sony Pictures Television is developing a sequel series with Tony Danza and Alyssa Milano set to reprise their respective roles as Tony Micelli and his daughter Samantha.

The originalWho’s The Bossseries centered on the life of Danza’s Tony and Sam after a shoulder injury forced him to retire from his career as a Major League Baseball player. When he accepts a job a live-in housekeeper for a divorced advertising executive named Angela Bower (Judith Light) and her son Jonathan (Danny Pintauro), Micelli and his daughter move from Brooklyn to Fairfield, Connecticut to live in Bower household. Deadline reports that theWho’s the Bosssequel series will be set thirty years after the original sitcom and finds Milano’s Samantha as a single mother living in the house occupied by the family in the ABC series. According to the outlet, the sequel series will focus on the Micelli father/daughter relationship to explore generational differences, opposing world views, and parenting styles. While Light and Pintauro are reportedly supportive of the project, neither actor is currently attached to the series, though Sony is hoping to find ways to include their characters.

Television producer and writer Norman Lear will serve as executive producer on theWho’s the Bosssequel series alongside ACT III Productions' Brent Miller and Farah Films' Dan Farah. Danza and Milano are also on board as executive producers.

Who’s The Bossis just the latest classic sitcom to return decades after its original run, with the most notable example probably being Netflix’s recently concludedFuller House, a continuation of ABC’sFull House. However, if anyone is getting tired of long-gone shows making comebacks, they may have to get used to it as another ABC classic,The Wonder Years, is also slated to be rebootedas well.

Of course, fans of the originalWho’s The Bossseries might argue there’s no harm in indulging in a little nostalgia. However, the return of the beloved sitcom may be bittersweet as original cast member Katherine Helmond, who portrayed Angela Bower’s feisty mother Mona Robinson, passed away in February 2019.
