Summary

TheStar Wars: The Bad Batchseason 3 trailerdropped, confirming the return of Asajj Ventress, a beloved character long thought dead. But now, an eagle-eyed viewer may have uncovered another returning character, and this return is downright tragic.

The Bad Batchhas the distinction of essentially being the onlyStar Warsseries that serves as a true successor to the acclaimed animated seriesThe Clone Wars, despite plenty of other shows including characters the latter had previously introduced. As such, it’s got plenty of material to work with, including the chance to bring back fan favorites like the sometimes-villain, sometimes-something-else, butalways Nightsister Asajj Ventress. Fans had previously assumed she was dead inStar Warscanon by this point, so her return is a surprise in more ways than one. But she may not be the only shockingly familiar face.

Twitter user@NExploradorathinks they’ve spotted none other than Tech in the newThe Bad Batchseason 3 trailer. That’s right. The character who tragically appeared to fall to his death at the end of season 2 may very well be primed to return. The thing is, that return may entail something truly heartbreaking. Characters not really dying isn’t exactly a new concept forStar Wars, just like in the Marvel comics and movies. Funnily enough, that might not be the only parallel between the two franchises.

Exploradora’s possible discovery happens during a scene showing a “new” character leading a platoon of Imperial stormtroopers. The idea here is that, after Tech supposedly becamethe first major character death inThe Bad Batch, Imperial forces may have found him alive and brainwashed him to become a loyal soldier. Any Marvel fans will recognize this as an almost identical plot point toCaptain America: The Winter Soldier, which saw the Captain’s friend Bucky turned into a ruthless killer by the Hydra organization using similar methods.

This could make things even more emotional for both themembers of Clone Force 99(the titular “Bad Batch”) and the audience. When Tech “died” at the end of season 2, it wrecked countless viewers who had previously been enjoying a fun romp with this eclectic band of misfits on the run from the Empire. But things got cranked up to 11 pretty quickly during the latter section of the season, adding some significant drama. Now, with the possibility that Tech is back and as an enemy, fans may have to contend with the possibility of losing him yet again.

Aside from that, there’s still a ton of excitement to look forward to in thisfinal season ofThe Bad Batch. There’s still the question of what will happen with Crosshair, the fellow “defective” clone who betrayed his brothers in Clone Force 99 to stay with the Empire. Given recent developments, there’s now a real chance that he may end up returning to the fold just in time to fight against the brainwashed Tech alongside his former comrades. What a happy franchise this is.

Star Wars: The Bad Batchseason 3 will premiere on February 21st, 2024, on Disney Plus.
