Bethesda games are known for a lot of things, but perhaps one of the defining moments of each game is when players “step out” and see the world around them. Whether that’s escaping duringSkyrim’s opening scene or emerging from avault inFallout,these moments are iconic as players take in the open world around them. It’s no secret thatStarfieldwill contain a step-out moment either.
In fact, Bethesda has seemingly teased several step-out moments for the game, which makes sense given thatStarfieldcontains thousands of planets. The first, however, is likely to be the most special, and it seems fans may have deduced how this will go down based on footage from the Xbox and Bethesda showcase.

Eagle-eyed Reddit fans (compiled in a video, seen below, by Taye Talks) spotted during the said presentation thatStarfield’s character creationidentifies the player as an employee of Argos Extractors. Many believe this is a mining company, which is supported by players' use of mining equipment, a moment where an NPC in a space mining suit says “most dusties don’t even make this far," and more.
This has led some fans to believe the game begins below the surface of a planet, with the player being a new miner under Argos’ employ. Obviously, events would follow and players would eventually exit this subterranean level, resulting inStarfield’s first step-out moment. This theory goes a little further though. Utilizing other evidence, fans think players will encounter a strange rock beneath the surface, by which touching kickstarts the story and gives fans some sort of vision—not necessarily unlike the plot ofMass Effect 1.
A Pilot will ask about visions at one point, the Crimson Fleet will attack, and players will be directed to Constellation. It’s likely here the game would open up and allow players to check out other quest lines, but being directed to Constellation would likely be similar toSkyrim’s main story and the Greybeards. Players could peruse it, or perhaps they could do something else instead – like joining the space pirate Crimson Fleet faction.
OF course, it all remains to be seen. The theory gets a little long-winded and more speculative in the end, but it’s pretty convincing. UntilStarfieldfans are making their characters and diving into the sci-fi game though, it’s best to take this theory with a grain of salt.
