Summary

Watching movies, performing comedy shows, and recycling. All trivial bits of information in the real world. But inState of Decay 2it’s a quirk, and it’s very important to take note of each one. Every quirk has a unique bonus, whether that’s a boost in morale, an increase in daily food intake, or simply a lowering of the threat of a zombie presence at home.

All are increasingly prevalent when fending off against hordes of zombies, so ensure to pick the ones most suitable for survival.State of Decay 2has many of these quirks, and some are better than others. But which of these is the best?

A group of survivors out on a scavenger hunt

10Police Procedure (Heartland’s DLC)

The first entry of the list is also the first DLC quirk, so don’t feel too low if the DLC is not available or has been purchased. Police Procedure is an excellent quirk to have for the scavenger in every gamer’s heart. Never before has it been so easy to loot cars and homes for valuable loot.

With a -50% chance of search crash and the ability to extract more plague samples, Police Procedure is great for spam searching storage boxes in a well-stocked environment even with zombies around.Building a strong basewith the supplies gathered will be a breeze.

9Shopping

Finding a bargain in the old world is now a skill worth conserving in the post-apocalypse because of its natural tendency to find a diamond in the rough. A quirk similar to that of Police Procedure, however, instead of decreasing the chance of search crash, Shopping increases search speed. This typically lowers the chance to crash because of the minimal time it will take to open containers.

Shopping also adds the bonus of getting 25 parts added to the home base each day. Perfect for stocking up and acquiring more items and repairing weapons. Making sure that the group is always prepared for any threats that may emerge.

8Hygiene

A “quirk” only if coming straight from the Middle Ages, having good hygiene is possibly the best quirk to have in a real-world post-apocalypse scenario. Nobody wants rotting teeth and to smell like death. Thankfully inState of Decay 2the player cannotsmell the survivorswho do not have this quirk.

The Hygiene quirk is excellent for players who like to constantly get involved in conflicts with plague zombies. As their +50% infection resistance, which applies to the whole community, means that those riskier missions into plague territory are much more worth it. This coupled with a +10% max health applied to the community makes Hygiene a quirk not to be ignored (just like real-world hygiene).

A herbalist tending their garden.

7Lichenology

Never has fungi been so interesting compared to now. Through hard work and a passion for tiny organisms, a survivor with the Lichenology quirk can provide a community with +2 Meds per day. Allowing the player to be a little more careless in the undead world as they can heal up with the guarantee their stock will be replenished by tomorrow.

Along with the Meds, a survivor with the Lichenology quirk also has expertise in gardening and herbalism. This provides a community with the ability tobuild farms, gardens, food outposts, and hydroponics. As well as some tasty bonuses to meds production.

Gut Packing Survivor on a scavenger hunt

6Gut Packing

Chomping down on as much food as possible has never been a good strategy, both in the real world and especially in a survival game. That’s why the Gut Packing quirk is so useful for survival in the post-apocalypse zombie wasteland. A Red Talon DLC quirk, Gut Packing allows for -30% food consumption in the community because of this well sought-after quirk.

Along with this, the Gut Packing quirk brings the knowledge of both cooking and nutrition to a community. Greatly reducing food consumption and stamina reduction. This allows a community to travel out further without getting tired and without the threat of starvation looming over them. Perfect for the expert survivor.

5Design

An expert quirk for those players who wish to quickly arm their community and keep morale high. The Design quirk brings the knowledge of the arts and craftsmanship to another level with its bonuses. Building a Forge, the perfect facility forcrafting melee weapons, and upgrading the barracks and material outposts for that increase in production, showcases the Design’s invaluable usefulness.

With the opportunity to build these facilities, it’s worth noting that the Design quirk also increases the speed at which these facilities are built and their production speeds. Proving that having a survivor with this quirk is essential to creating a strong community able to fend off against any foe.

A driver traversing the lands.

4Driving

Fast & Furious has nothing on the Driving quirk. A quirk that can be learned as well as naturally acquired, Driving allows for exploring great distances inState of Decay 2a breeze. The hardest aspect ofState of Decay 2is finding three things: food, ammo, and fuel. Driving solves the third with relative ease.

With a +100% Fuel Efficiency, along with +50% vehicle stealth and endurance, the Driving quirk makes traversing the land in a vehicle the easiest, safest, and smartest way of getting away. A lack of noise, a strong vehicle, and only a small amount of fuel being used is a no-brainer strategy fora survivor to learnwhen facing the undead hordes ofState of Decay 2.

A safe place to stay.

3Scrum Certification

Similar to Design in its focus on construction, the Scrum Certification quirk takes it a level beyond with its added labor assistance. Possessing a +50% build action speed and +50% facility action speed, the Scrum Certification quirk allows for a quick build-up of a community’s infrastructure and further appliances alongside that. This creates a sturdy foundation for a future island branching community.

Coupling this with the +2 increase to Labor and the speed at which actions are done and buildings are forged makes Scrum Certification the perfect quirk for building a large and strong community of survivors quickly and with little interference from zombie hordes and hostile survivors.

A player mounts a juggernaut

2Sports Trivia

The perfect quirk for forging those incredibly fit and strong survivors to take on the zombie hordes and hostile survivorsout in the wasteland. The Sports Trivia quirk grants excellent benefits to a survivors cardio (+100% experience rate) and their fighting (+100% experience rate) skills. Bringing one of these survivors on long scavenges or particularly long fights is the prudent choice.

Alongside these benefits, the Sports Trivia survivor also has a permanent stamina increase of 20. Making those longer treks feel a little less long. With the provided boost of allowing endurance training regimes at the Fighting Gym, the threat of fatigue severity is decreased drastically (between 20%-25%). This equates to the second-best quirk inState of Decay 2.

A Survivor fires on zombies

1Pinball

The absolute best quirk inState of Decay 2is used to bring about death and destruction at a level unseen by many who haven’t experienced it. The Pinball quirk is perfect for firearms lovers and all things explosive. With an amazing +100% Shooting experience rate and -25% Gun durability loss, shooting both zombies and survivors becomes easier and easier in a lot less time.

Using the Pinball quirk also provides players with the knowledge of mechanics. An impressively dense bit of knowledge that can be acquired. It is perfect for crafting mines in the workshop, which is great for base defense against zombie hordes. It also provides the player with the option to craft Masterwork Assault Riflesto deal even more damage to zombiesand hostile survivors alike. Cementing itself asState of Decay 2’sgreatest quirk.
