The FlashTV series began its run on the CW back in 2014, however, the story of the fastest man alive played by Grant Gustin will soon come to a close. There was a lot of speculation among fans of the series that the ninth season ofThe Flashwould be the last season of the show, and it was just confirmed to be the truth by the show’s executive producer Eric Wallace (as reported by Deadline).
The Flashwill leave the CW after its upcoming ninth season, after nine years on the network. Thefinal season is set to debut in 2023and will consist of 13 episodes, which will make it the shortest season of the series ever.

In his statement revealing that the show would be coming to a close next year, Wallace stated, “Barry Allen has reached the starting gate for his last great race.” He went on to share his adoration for the show, its cast, and the legacy it will leave behind when it inevitably airs for the last time.
The Flashmarks the final show of the original Arrowverse on the CW. The Arrowverse consisted of agroup of superhero television serieswithin the DC Comics universe, as they existed within the same universe there would commonly be team-ups among the characters as they all came together to fight a big bad, similar to the Justice League or Marvel’s Avengers. Due to major budget cuts and the Warner Bros Discover merger, many shows within the Arrowverse were axed during recent years, some of these series beingArrow,Supergirl,Legends of Tomorrow,Black Lightning, andBatwoman.
Due to the CW’s choice to downsize their once extensive catalog of television shows, the Arrowverse that onceruled the network during the 2010swill soon be let to rest in 2023. This has saddened many fans of the universe as shows likeLegends of Tomorrowended on a cliffhanger, leaving fans wondering what was supposed to happen to their favorite characters, and these questions have yet to be answered.
AlthoughThe Flashand the Arrowverse will be coming to a close on the CW next year, its legacy will not be forgotten as it leaves its mark as one of the first very successful television superhero shows. This has paved the way for other shows in the DCEU and even for Marvel to begin producingits own superhero television series. As fans prepared to say their goodbyes to Gustin’s Barry Allen, they can prepare for the fastest man alive to return in the big screen feature film starring Ezra Miller.
