While grounded acts as the hardest difficulty in the game, permadeath can be played on any difficulty. However, it might actually be harder, seeing as how a single death will set players all the way back to the beginning. A gamer known as Confusionitus posted a video to Reddit titled “the pain…” that shows the player dying in permadeath mode as Abby, which takes place in the latter half of the game. The player walks across the ladder and must jump to grab onto a rope that is hanging from the pillar above. The difficulty with this section is that the player must jump in the correct direction in order to grab this rope. However, that is not what happened, as the player is seen falling to their death after jumping toward it.The Last of Usactor planning a permadeath playthroughto show his commitment to the series may want to give it a second thought based on the intense pain that a single death can bring.
The post-death stats show that the player had put in 7 hours and 27 minutes and that they were playing on hard difficulty. The exacerbated pain can be heard in the player’s voice who also verbally confirmed the agony by stating that the pain of failing was felt in their body. Even without permadeath, this section is well known for killing players that are not careful when jumping, as other Reddit users said they had also missed the rope. Playersfalling inThe Last of Us 2is a major thing to be aware of in permadeath mode, as this is something that will kill players regardless of the difficulty.
Players are greeted withspecial end credits inThe Last of Us 2for those able to beat the game on permadeath mode, and it is required for 100% completion. Even though this mode is not required for the Platinum Trophy, there remains plenty of incentive to achieve it for fans of the series.
