A developer ofThe Simpsons: Hit and Runhas commented on fan demand for a remake of the cult classic. Fans have been vocal about their desire for a new version over the years, even going as far as to start apetition calling for an officialSimpsons: Hit and Runremaster.

The Simpsons: Hit and Runwas initially released in 2003, and over the years has grown to attain cult status among the gaming community. It offered the gameplay ofGrand Theft Autowith the cartoon charm ofThe Simpsons, making it appeal to a younger audience. The game was only a modest success upon release, but time has looked fondly on the title. While official news on the game has been quiet for a very long time, it did make headlines a few years ago when thesource code forThe Simpsons: Hit and Runwas leaked online. In the time since, this has made it much easier for fans to modify the original game.

The comment about a potential remake came fromThe Simpsons: Hit and Run’s lead game designer, Joe McGinn, who spoke to GamesRadar+. As part of the interview, McGinn stated that he “would love to see” a remake of the game. With developer Radical Entertainment now practically non-existent, McGinn has no insight into whether an official remake is on the way. Players have even begun to take matters into their own hands with their own remake projects. Perhaps the most well-known isYouTuber reubs’Simpsons: Hit and Runremake in Unreal Engine 5, a project that remains ongoing and has been making some amazing progress as of late.

Unfortunately, McGinn didn’t have much more to add to the remake conversation. For fans clinging to the hope of a remaster or remake, any news like this will still be construed as good news. McGinn isn’t the onlySimpsonsalumni to voice support on this issue, withThe SimpsonsshowrunnerMatt Selman even calling for aSimpsons: Hit and Runremasterin the past few years. It seems as though it’s one of the most desired titles in gaming, although due to publisher Vivendi Universal Games closing 15 years ago, it’s currently unclear who would even have the legal rights to undertake such a task.

Even with fan demands, it would be a shock if a remake ofThe Simpsons: Hit and Runwere to materialize. The last main release isThe Simpsons Game, based on the movie, both of which were released in 2007. Of course, nothing is impossible, and stranger things have definitely happened, but it would represent a big change in direction forThe Simpsonsfranchise.
