The Sims 4is well-known for its ample amount of DLC, and EA is keeping the trend alive with its latest addition to the game:the Horse Ranch expansion pack. The new pack is set to whisk players into a new world inspired by the American West, where Sims can run their own ranch, make their own nectar, and care for their own horses. In fact, this particular expansion may be best for those who also own the Cottage Living Pack.
While new content to a game is always welcome, there’s so much toThe Sims 4that many fans may wish to weigh this pack against another. After all, some cater to different playstyles more so than other packs. For those players on the fence, this is what pairs best with the content and what kind of gameplay it caters to specifically.

The Horse Ranch expansion pack introduces players to Chestnut Ridge: a world filled with huge canyons, winding rivers, and large vistas for players to explore. The world has a clear wild west motif, with a downtown area featuring wooden saloons surrounded by cobblestone-paved roads with Sims traveling on horseback. The world is built with horses in mind, as lots and the areas between them are massive, allowing Sims to ride from place to place. However, horses are obviously the stars of the pack; players will be able tocreate, breed, raise, and train their own horses inThe Sims 4. However, in EA’s digital event preview of the pack, the company also highlighted the new miniature goats and sheep that players can interact with, as well as the new nectar-making activity. The ‘Horse Ranch’ pack is clear in what it offers both aesthetically and gameplay-wise.
Other gameplay additions heavily center on horse care, adding more to the Gardening Skill, and introducing Nectar-Making. All in all, it’s clear thatThe Sims 4’s Horse Ranch expansion pack is aimed at players who want a cozy expansion of the game, one particularly focused on this aesthetic. What’s more, though, is how this pack coincides perfectly with Cottage Living. Alongside plenty of its additions adding to this aesthetic as well, horses, goats, and sheep will interact with and acknowledgeanimals from Cottage Living. Players who already own ‘Cottage Living’ can milk and shear the miniature goats and sheep for extra Simoleons, and the new Build items would fit perfectly for a cottage, ranch, or barn. Together, they’re a match made in heaven.
For those who enjoy cozy, small-town gameplay, this pack may be a good fit, especially for those whoalready own Cottage Living. However, for those who aren’t particularly interested in country-style gameplay, this pack may not have much to offer.
The Sims 4’s Horse Ranch Expansion Pack launches July 20 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
