Updated by Jake Fillery on December 5th, 2022:With the latest Super Mario Bros. Movie trailer, there comes a brand-new look at the highly anticipated cinematic debut of a Mario Universe. This latest Super Mario Bros. Movie trailer shows a lot of things for fans of the franchise to love, and in doing so, plenty of easter eggs and things that audiences might have missed in the glory of Illumination and Nintendo’s love letter to the fans.

There are plenty of things to adore about the trailer for the Super Mario Bros. Movie. It’s a far cry from live-action and strange small-headed dinosaurs and features an entire celebration of the decades of Mario fanfare, with many details easily missed.
12Peach’s Biker Outfit
Princess Peach is an iconic ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom and a long-standing captive of Bowser. However, she throws aside her pink gown for something more stylish and war-ready in theSuper Mario Bros. Movietrailer. Audiences see Princess Peach don a biker costume.
This costume isn’t new for the film, as Princess Peach has worn this outfit before in theMario Kartgames. It just goes to show the attention to detail the creators of the film are putting into their work with such a fun and iconic outfit.

112D Training Course
With Mario being a true fish out of water in the Mushroom Kingdom, he’s going to need the best training around to save his brother Luigi and stop the evil Bowser from taking over the world. In doing so, Princess Peach invites Mario to a training course, which is extremely reminiscent of the 2DMariolevels that feature in the franchise.
It’s a very interesting and fun way to pay homage to the 2DMariogames, as featuring these levels as training courses is a brilliant way to bind the franchise in its entirety, whether that is 2D or 3D. Even the training course itself features a great reference to otherMariosegments, like falling tiles and fire walls.

10Tanooki Suit
As the trailer progresses, audiences might spot Mario wearing the iconic Tanooki suit. This power-up gives Mario the ability to not only wear a comfortable onesie but to be able to soar great heights and also become an invulnerable statue when standing still. The Tanooki Suit is a longstanding power-up in the Mario franchise.
With the first appearance inSuper Mario Bros. 3, the Tanooki power-up has featured in plenty of Mario games since, all with similar powers and uses. To see Mario wield such a power-up in theSuper Mario Bros. Movietrailer seems a tease as to the other power-ups that could come.

9Fire Flower
Audiences witness the fire flower power-up in its purest form, and not by the use of Mario. This power-up is iconic and gives Mario a red-and-white color scheme and the ability to throw out fireballs. The flower itself is consumed by Mario and can be found in certain blocks.
In theSuper Mario Bros. Movietrailer, these flowers seem to be wild and exist in the Mushroom Kingdom, as Princess Peach touches one to develop the powers of the fire flower. The inclusion of this power-up leaves room for many other power-ups in the many Mario games.

8Mario Kart
One of the most famed aspects of theMariofranchise is that ofMario Kart. This fun series has Mario, guest characters, and a bounty of otherMarioseries characters who embark on races across the known and unknown parts of theMariouniverse. They are intensely fun, and now,Mario Kartfeatures in theSuper Mario Bros. Movie.
Not only do characters appear in their iconic vehicles in theMario Kartfranchise, but they are also driving across Rainbow Road, the infamously difficult track that features in allMario Kartgames. For the even more obscure references, Mario can be seen drifting with blue sparks, much like the way to get a boost inMario Kart.

7Bowser’s Airship Island
In theMariogames, more often than not, Mario will have to venture to Bowser’s many airships. These great ships feature plenty of enemies to jump on and squash, as well as either Bowser or a Koopaling waiting on board. These airships are huge and originate fromBowser’s grandvolcanic kingdom.
It seems that inThe Super Mario Bros. Movie, Bowser’s flagship is an island, oozing with lava. Bowser’s airship takes on the appearance of Bowser’s Kingdom, which could explain how he can get around and conquer the other kingdoms so easily. It would be interesting to see if Bowser’s castle is in the air rather than on land.

6The Snow Kingdom
There have been many ice-themed levels in theMariofranchise. The importance of snow and ice cannot be understated, as it leads to new suits and mechanics in the game, rather slippery ones. InThe Super Mario Bros. Movieteaser, Bowser lands his ship at theSnow Kingdomand starts a quick war with the penguin population.
AlthoughMariofans have not seen an ice-themed castle, and a penguin king, they have seen the Snow Kingdom. This kingdom featured as a level inSuper Mario Odysseyand housed many interesting and adorable creatures, as well as a very chilly climate.

5Power Star
The trailer forThe Super Mario Bros. Movieis edited in a way that leads audiences to believe that Bowser destroyed the Snow Kingdom to find a Power Star.Power Stars feature prominentlyin theMariogames, and were first introduced inSuper Mario 64as collectibles. These collectibles could be used to unlock more levels inSuper Mario 64.
Bowser claims one of these Power Stars inThe Super Mario Bros. Movietrailer. It reveals a small detail about the film, with how Bowser has finally found a Power Star and boasts that nobody can stop him now. These stars are a mystery, but he certainly isn’t using them to win a game ofMario Party.

4Green Pipes
As a plumber, it’s no surprise that Mario has seen his fair share of pipes. One of themost famous designs inMario, other than the mushrooms, is that of green pipes. These pipes are used for decoration, but also for travel. Mario can enter green pipes and come out the other side, wherever that may be.

The trailer forThe Super Mario Bros. Movieshows Mario being spat out of a green pipe, which could very well be his introduction to the Mushroom Kingdom, considering he seems puzzled and confused. Green pipes have been used in plenty ofMariogames.
3Cheep Cheeps
Many of the creatures in theMarioseries are adorable and look plenty soft, yet they are more often than not pretty deadly. The Cheep Cheeps are a type of fish found in theunderwater levelsof theMariogames. They swim happily in lakes, rivers, and oceans, and can sometimes leap from the water.
It’s a brief moment, and fans will have to scan the frame, but Cheep Cheeps can be seen inThe Super Mario Bros. Movieteaser once Mario gets to the Mushroom Kingdom. Awaking in a field of mushrooms, the Cheep Cheeps can be seen in a nearby river.
